and still got gestational diabetes.

i had gestational diabetes and was on insulin from week 30, i was also overweight and am now losing the weight (i also have a family history of type II diabetes).

my question is when i get pregnant again, is it inevitable that i will get this again even if i start pregnancy at a significantly smaller weight?

Hi forevermore, this is my second pregnancy, I had Gestational diabetes with Ds diagnosed at 28 weeks and now have it again much earlier(18 weeks). i was told by the diabetic nurse that the best way to minimise the chances of getting it with subsequant pregnancies is to lose weight, but that it is possible that you could get it anyway. Well done on the weight loss, you are improving your health by just losing a few pounds so try not to worry about the diabetes too much, the hospital will most likely have you measuring you blood glucose levels much earlier this time as a precaution. Hope that helps

I had it in my last pregnancy but just tested negative this time around! I was about a stone lighter going into pregnancy this time.

It's not inevitable that you get GD in a subsequent pregnancy but it is much more likely, also that you'll get it earlier on. Also that you develop diabetes within 10 years after the pregnancy. Doesn't sound too rosy, but it's a risk I was prepared to take. I'm 32 weeks now and have just started insulin.
