5weeks pregnant and bleeding with back pain

Hi there, I found out I was pregnant at 4weeks and 4 days, then 4weeks 6days started bleeding with period pain type cramps. At 5weeks and 3 days, I am still bleeding. I have had the worst back pain but just a dull numb period pain type in my abdominal. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? The hospital can't do anything as I am not 6weeks yet, so there is no way of checking on things.
Thanks in advance .

Have they not offered you an internal scan to just check what's going on? You do need to be seen asap. I have experienced similar and I'm afraid it turned out to be a MMC not to say your situation is the same but I got cramps and bleeding I went to epu and they did a scan and blood tests to confirm. It's not healthy for them to be leaving you just incase there is something wrong I would try and persist that you get seen to even if you go to A&E x

No, they told me they don't scan anyone under 6weeks as there is very little to see. How long did you bleed for if you don't mind me asking? I feel like it's turned into a normal period now but a bit more achy. Thank you for your reply. Xx

That's awfull they should see you no matter what stage your at.. well mine basically turned into a period think I bled for about 5-7 days (was 4 years ago so cant remember exactly) then it all stopped. But some women do bleed almost monthly during pregnancy or at least at the beginning it doesn't always mean mc so I do have my fingers crossed for you! Hope you get a better outcome xx

It is fair to say that they won’t be able to tell you much before 6 weeks and not much they can do. Some women go through this without ever knowing they were pregnant, and just assume it’s a late period.

I hope there is some hope here for you OP. Go in at 6 weeks, you’ll have more chance of a clearer answer. If the pain becomes unbareable then I would recommend seeking further help.

It does sadly sound like a miscarriage I'm afraid. I've had 2 and both mine involved back cramps and bleeding. The hospital won't be able to do anything for you and it sounds like your body is taking care of things. Please don't go to A&E they are under a lot of pressure and this isn't an emergency although I fully understand it's worrying and incredibly sad . Rest and take pain relief. I found hot water bottles helped too.
Call your GP on Monday and ask them to arrange a scan for you. Just tell them you are 6 weeks at least then you will get some answers. Some people do bleed in pregnancy so you may be pleasantly surprised but for me that wasn't the case.

Good luck x

Thank you guys. I have pretty much accepted that it won't be good news, but won't know until the scan. I thought about doing another test but apparently the HCG hormones can still be detectable. I have a scan on Tuesday xx

Thats absolute rubbish.

What if its ectopic? FWIW I dont think is an ectopic.

I'm sorry to say this sounds like you are miscarrying. Agree with the pp - ask for your GP to refer you for a scan. Are you anywhere near London? If so St George's in Tooting have a walk-in EPU, no referral needed. Hope the pain stops soon x

S4M11 · 12/11/2019 22:44

Hi guys, I'm sorry I thought I'd replied to this. It wasn't good news at the scan and they confirmed a miscarriage. I am wondering though if anyone has been in this situation and how long it was until your next period. We want to keep trying for another baby but I haven't had a period yet and not sure how long it will be.
TIA x

I have to totally disagree with the advice of not going to A&E ‘as they are under pressure’. This could be an eptopic pregnancy which can be life-threatening. It’s very important that emergency gynaecology see you and give you at least an internal scan to see what’s going on. Do get help and make sure you are seen, this is what our NHS if for!

So sorry for you loss, I’m glad you went! Hope you make a quick recovery 😊.
