Coca Cola when pregnant ?

Probably made my self VERY paranoid but I’m 18 weeks + 1 day, I never usually have Coca Cola unless I go out for food and I usually have 1, but I went for a nandos for lunch and because their refillable half pint glasses I got carried away and had 4 half pints of coke. Is that okay?! I feel very worried. Don’t want to have too much.

Hmm

Stop drinking that garbage, pregnant or not.

ShirleyPhallus · 11/10/2019 20:32

Pretty sure you can have 4 cans of coke / Diet Coke in a day cos they’re 40-50mg caffeine each and you need to limit it to 200mg so you’re probably fine

Aquamarine1029 · 11/10/2019 20:36

It's more than just the caffeine, though. Four cans of coke is 600 calories, empty calories at that.

Dumptyhumpty101 · 11/10/2019 20:37

As a one off I really wouldn’t worry! If you was drinking it regularly it maybe cause for concern but you don’t so forget about it and move on.

moveitorloseit · 11/10/2019 20:40

It'll be fine Smile

PastTippingPoint · 11/10/2019 20:43

I craved cola when I was pregnant, had to buy the sugar and caffeine free one as I could get through it like there was no tomorrow!

As pp said as a one off its probably fine, just be more conscious next time that you're consuming lots of sugar and caffeine drinking that much in one go Smile

feelingsicknow · 11/10/2019 20:45

You're fine. Yadda yadda about healthy living etc but as long as your caffeine intake is okay whilst preggo no harm done. You're not doing it every day.

I drank Coke Zero every day whilst pregnant, as I did before pregnancy and after (yes, even whilst breastfeeding). I also had a few low-alcohol beers during pregnancy.

It's honestly fine. If you're concerned, tell your midwife at next appointment. But my advice would be to chill out. X

You're fine. I am not a huge fan of Coke but when I had a monstrous headache a MIDWIFE told me to take paracetamol and a COKE. If it was that harmful - they wouldn't have recommended it. Of course, try not to have it every day (sugar, coffeine etc,) but every once in a while - can't harm the baby or you.

tacosplease · 12/10/2019 07:57

I find Diet Coke really helps with the nausea for some reason, so I’ve been having the occasional can here and there.

letsjog · 12/10/2019 08:28

Sipping Coke was the only thing that helped me through first trimester nausea.
I'm sure a one off will be fine.

On a side note one of my DCs was a surprise and before I had any idea I could be pregnant I had 3 BIG nights of drinking. I NEVER usually drink more than one or two but they were huge occasions in the family and a visit from a friend we haven't seen in years and I'm talking not up until 3pm the next day on one of them.
I was distraught when a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant. Midwife told me to not worry Confused.
DC was born perfectly healthy and gained weight, breasted etc beautifully.

bobble53 · 12/10/2019 08:33

I craved full sugar coke like mad in my first trimester! You’ll be fine.

Stiltons · 12/10/2019 08:34

Completely fine. You are still within the recommended caffeine intake if you drink 4 cans of coke a day.

mistermagpie · 12/10/2019 08:35

'Empty calories' lol. You should see what rubbish I've eaten during this pregnancy, coke would be the least of my worries!

You do need to watch the caffeine but I've had the occasional can as a treat.

MockingJay27 · 12/10/2019 09:24

It was a one off you’ll be absolutely fine, just make sure you stay under 200mg of caffeine. Nando’s refill coke is delicious:)

@Aquamarine1029 you sound very judgemental

BarleyG · 14/10/2019 20:41

I’ve been craving full sugar fizzy drinks and have treated myself to a few. You’ll be fine Smile

Kanga83 · 14/10/2019 20:45

The only thing I could stomach in my first pregnancy (severe hyperemisis) was caffeine free Diet Coke and san Pelegríno limonata. One drink won't harm. I had a can of each a day (to be fair it was vomited) as it was the only fluids I could manage in sips.

CileyMayRhinovirus · 14/10/2019 20:53

You'll be fine. It was my craving. Mostly I had 1 in the morning, but when my sickness was really bad it's the only thing I could manage and drank about 1-2litres to avoid going to hospital to go on a drip. It's always my go to if I have a hangover nausea when I'm not pregnant too.
