Early pregnancy help

Hello,

Had positive pregnancy test with faint line on 22/8, which got stronger over the next few days. Had spotting followed by 3 days of heavy period like bleeding. Went to EPU and had TVS, which showed empty gestation sac in uterus. Sonographer said probably too early and to come back in 2 weeks. Had HCG bloods done and came back as 700, 2 days later 860 and 2 days later 980. Discussions with EPU doesn’t sound positive and ?ectopic ?failed ?m/c has been mentioned. The nurse also mentioned methotrexate inj potentially. We’ve had another scan today ( 1 week since first scan) which still shows empty sac but we think we’re about 4+2 weeks so still too early to detect yolk. We have been informed to come back in another week for further scan.

We are under the impression this is a failed pregnancy due to the HCG results not doubling every 48hrs, however don’t want to undergo the methotrexate inj unless it’s confirmed ectopic. If an empty sac was seen in the uterus can that rule out an ectopic or not? Ideally, we’re hoping the m/c passes naturally before it comes to that. Or is there a possible chance this is a viable pregnancy and we just need to wait a few more weeks?

Does anyone know of any viable pregnancies where the HCG has remained low and only increased slightly over 48hrs?

TY
