Baby measuring small

Hello, I'm sure people have already asked this but I couldn't find another thread
Is anyone's baby measuring small? She was on the 12th centile at 26 weeks and now 9th centile at 30 week scan. They are sending me to a consultant and doing scans every 2 weeks but just wondered if anyone has been through this and do they induce you early for a small baby? Or do they only induce if there's a problem causing them to be small like if the placenta isn't working properly
Thanks in advance Smile

Hello! My first baby measured small so we had regular scans - towards the end of the pregnancy her growth slowed right down so I had extra monitoring and they induced at 39 weeks (they thought she was better out than in at that point, even though placenta seemed to be functioning normally)

This pregnancy I have another small baby, but she is growing steadily along her curve so they are leaving me to it.

Sorry it didn't send me a notification to say you'd replied! Was there any other issues like with the amniotic fluid or the blood flow? Glad all was well in the end, nice to hear of positive stories, thank you

No, everything else was normal, just the growth had all but stopped.

How are you getting along?

Hi, I'm in a similar situation. Had a scan at 32 weeks that showed him on the 9th percentile. I am having weekly placenta checks and fortnightly growth scans. Placenta looks perfect at the moment as does fluid. I have my next growth scan this week. I was told by my consultant that if he hadn't grown at all by this weeks scan they would deliver straight away. If he is growing along his curve they will induce at 37 weeks, even if there doesn't appear to be any problems with placenta/fluid as they'd rather not take any risk once he's at term.

Katebx · 13/10/2019 08:46

Oh so it seems like they induce early for growth even if there's no other problems
I'm not too sure about my fluid levels as on my notes it says 4.2cm and from what I can find it's supposed to be above 5cm but haven't seen a consultant yet so I'm not sure

How many weeks will you be at your next scan forecast?

I will be 34 weeks, really hoping he has grown as my bump seems to have gotten quite a bit bigger since last scan.

I think there are two different ways to measure amniotic fluid, either total fluid amount or largest pool. For me they measured largest pool which should be between 2 and 8 cm and mine was 4.8cm. So they might have measured that for you too.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Smile
Oh right hopefully they've done it that way for me as well then! It would have been helpful if they at least went through a few things with me instead of making me wait to see the consultant because now I'm just panicking!🙈

Following this thread with interest as I've been sent for a grown scan (tomorrow) as bump is measuring behind at 30 weeks.
For context: I was measured on weds at 29+3 as between 26 and 27cm. However at 27 weeks I was measured at 30cm! Not sure how that works!

Calmingvibrations · 13/10/2019 09:53

Hi yes, scan showed baby on 9th centile and femurs on less than 5th and not growing. Lots of scans and monitoring. Planned C section for different reasons at 39 weeks. Baby all fine, not that small weight wise actually, and continued on the 9th centile for a while.

Never got to the bottom of why he was small / legs not growing. I was worried sick, I’m not a small person by any stretch!! so couldn’t understand why baby would be small.

Hope all is ok for you, will keep fingers crossed. Xx

Thanks, yeah it's annoying you have to wait to see the consultant. For me they have booked the consultant appointment for straight after the scans, so you find out straight away what everything means. It's probably different for every hospital though.

I will update if I get any new info at scan on Wednesday.

My DS measured small, it was first picked up at a scan I had at 32 weeks to check placenta location. They scanned me again 2 weeks later, then referred me to the consultant for a scan at 36 weeks. The whole time baby was growing steadily, just measuring smaller than they'd like, and placenta functioning normally. I saw the consultant the day after my 36+1 week scan (Thu) and he said that in cases like mine they induce at 37 weeks, which was the Tuesday. Nobody had mentioned this before so it came as a bit of a surprise! I ended up with an emergency CS, and DS weighed 5lb8oz, below 10th centile. He's now a happy thriving 15 month old.
