Pregabalin/lyrica in pregnancy

I'm pretty sure I'm pregnant (the tests are positive but not smack you in the face positive so I'm trying not to get my hopes up after a loss last year) but I'm currently on 300mg of lyrica it says on the overleaf to see your gp within a day or two of finding out your pregnant but my gp is saying a 5 week wait for an appointment and I'm not really sure what to do if anyone has been in my position or has any advice, thank you !

**gp has a 5 week wait due to merging with another surgery then he resigned so now there's loads of us in a pickle I feel sorry for the gp that got us all dumped on him

You need to call back and ask to be seen by a different GP as urgent and explain you have just found out you are pregnant and on a drug that you need advice to stop. 300mg is quite a high dose. I was still on it (amongst) other stuff) when I fell pregnant unexpectedly in January and my consultant tapered me off as quick as possible as it has been linked to defects in humans when taken in the 1st trimester. If they won’t let you see a GP, ask for a GP to phone. Last ditch attempt would be to see the pharmacist.

Did a psychiatrist prescribe?

Sent too quickly.

I was on pregablin, amongst others, they stopped them in a and E circa 4 weeks pregnant cold turkey which was horrendous.

I haven't gone back onto pregablin but went back onto the rest.

Have you weighed up pros and cons?

Thank you everyone I'm going to go in the surgery today and say, it was prescribed by a neurologist, since I found out I've only taken the odd does when I feel myself needing it it's 150mg in the morning and night so I've been taking less than half the does I just wanted to see someone to do it properly and see what they suggest would be best, even if it's just something a bit weaker for the pregnancy

The does is probably so high because I'm 6ft and a size 16 they always seem to have to give me high does I even came round when they were pulling my teeth out 😂

Thank you again everyone !

I was on a high dose (600mg per day) and told to stop at least three months before ttc due to the potential impact on a developing foetus. That was 2014 though so guidelines may have changed.

This is why we was going to wait a few months due to me being of medication, I've recently lost my grandad after a short but brutal battle I've got his funeral next week so obviously my stress levels and head aren't going to be 100% and they really aren't, I'm so worried about it all tbh I suffered a chemical pregnancy at 5 weeks last year and I think I'm just convincing myself it's happening again

Thank you xx

GP’s are no use in situations like this. The best thing you can do is find your nearest hospital with an EPU where you just turn up and wait with no referral needed. It’s is very important to get an obstetricians opinion as cold turkey can often be dangerous with meds or it could be necessary. GP’s are just not knowledgeable enough tend to err on “ side of caution” and tell you to stop immediately which may be awful advice.

I think my nearest hospital you can call up the early pregnancy unit and basically like say what's going on then they tell you to come in or not well they did with my first but she's 4 in January so it's been a while I'll call up in the morning and see if they can help or at least point me in the right direction of who to see

Thank you
