Private IVF positive pregnancy result-when to go onto nhs scans?

Hi, after a very long 3 months of ivf, then freeze all followed by fet #1 I’m 4wks pregnant and elated after having my bloods done. I have my viability scan in 3wks time with my ivf clinic.

My question is how does it work with my nhs scans in terms of registration. Being 41 I want to get harmony scan done to test for trisomy 18, 19 and 21. When would be best I book those in for usually?

It’s still sinking in and praying that it keeps flourishing. 🤞

I’m going to get the harmony test done at the fetal medical centre. Just wondered when best I book as viability at ivf clinic at 7wks so harmony private at 10?

We aren’t telling anyone just yet and want to get all clear before we start sharing with family.

Massive congratulations!!!I actually got pregnant naturally as we were about to begin ivf but after 4.5 years Ttc and 6 rounds of iui. I was told to book in with the midwife after our viability scan. I saw the midwife at 9 weeks then had a private scan at 10 weeks because I needed extra reassurance! You can have the harmony test from 10 weeks. Just had my 12 week scan and beyond surprised that my body is finally doing what it is supposed to do.
Best of luck with everything. There is a thread on here for pregnancy after ivf xxx

Most private clinics will release you into NHS care after the viability scan. You can then take their letter to your GP to arrange a midwife appointment. As for NIPT - you can usually do that from 10 weeks. I think the fetal medical centre provides the service too.

Hi Janey15, congratulations, that sounds like A huge journey you went through and reassuring at 12wk scan 🙂

I’ll book harmony for 10wks once viability is done. I may call my gp and see if worth my registering now on their system too.

Thanks Teddybear45, think I’ll see how viability goes then connect with gp surgery

You can register with a midwife now and book an appointment, you don't need to be discharged from your clinic.

Congratulations on getting this far. I did 6 cycles of IVF and had 2 live births in my late 40s. I didn't do trisomy testing so can't comment on that. I just wanted to advise you to inform your GP asap, just in case you need any emergency care. Unless you are classified as a high-risk pregnancy, you probably won't get any NHS ante-natal care until your booking-in appointment at 12 weeks. I also wanted to tell you that many people didn't understand my cautious happiness once I finally had an ongoing pregnancy after cycle 5. Most people would regard a positive pregnancy test as the happy ending, but I found I just had a whole new set of things to be worried about.

Hi JoulesAgain, congratulations on your two live births, that so positive for me to see. I guess that’s it, we are being cautious as to our positive test today as we know we have many hurdles to jump hence not sharing with family until we have more reassurance.
