I normally have a pretty flat stomach, but today I woke up and none of my clothes fit right and my stomach seems to have doubled overnight. Is this normal? This is my second pregnancy. I lost my first around 14 weeks.

I believe second time you show sooner

Mintypea5 · 06/10/2019 20:33

Bloating around this stage is really normal! It tends to go down by 13/14 weeks and then proper bump appears

Totally normal in my experience. It’s not actually baby in the early weeks, baby is still teeny tiny! Its bloat as your digestive system slows down & your hormones change. It certainly makes you look pregnant though. You’ll probably find it goes up & down as you eat and as the day goes on.

I’m 16 weeks now and my bump is still bigger from bloat by the end of the day!

I thought the whole you show sooner the second time only applied if you went through your entire pregnancy?

Are you usually quite tiny? I was before my first pregnancy, and I was 'showing' a difference in figure at 6 weeks. Almost certainly it was because of enormously increased appetite and excessive wind rather than actual baby! I've had three babies and have had to change how I dress within the first half of the first trimester every time for that reason. If you're not ready to share the news then the changing seasons are your friend - layer up and mention all the warming comfort food you're eating as the nights draw in. Congratulations, and best wishes for you and baby.

I had to get maternity trousers at 8 weeks due to bloat. It wasn't baby bump (8 week baby being the size of a raspberry).

I wouldn't classify myself as tiny, I think I'm more just normal (uk size 10). Also, I'm very glad that it's sweatshirt season right now! I'm not ready to break the news to anyone yet, just in case I have another miscarriage

Yes, embrace the jumpers, scarves and cardis. That should help until you're more comfortable with the idea of telling people.

huskyvoice · 06/10/2019 21:19

And I hope you're managing to allow yourself time apart from the worries about miscarriage. It is difficult once you've suffered a loss. Lean on whoever you need to for some tlc and talking through of how you are. Good luck.

I’m 8 weeks tomorrow and definitely up a dress size. But I think it’s more of a food baby tbh. The bloat is something else.

I properly showed around 16 weeks with my first, 12 weeks with my second though I lost him at 16 weeks, and this time I think it’ll probably be 12 weeks again judging by where I am.

Wishing you a happy and healthy rest of pregnancy. I’m very anxious about our next reassurance scan tomorrow but feeling hopeful given my symptoms.
