I don't think you'll be able to get a dufinitive answer here. Brown discharge can be nothing-its old blood. You shouldn't worry unless it's bright red.
I had a brown discharge when I was 11 weeks that never turned red and went on to continue a healthy pregnancy. I also started with brown discharge when I had a m/c but it turned to link, then red quite quickly, over the course of a day or 2.
Hoping you have good news. It's hard not to worry but I hope it doesn't mean anything sinister.

Gustavo1 · 03/10/2019 17:09

Hard for anyone to say without waiting it out I’m afraid. Flowers
If it’s a prune juice colour, it’s worth getting checked out. Talking from personal experience there Sad

nl1991 · 03/10/2019 19:10

I had similar at 6 weeks - not enough to need a pad/liner but noticeable on wiping. I called the EPAU and they had me in for an early internal scan. Everything was fine and I had what's called an 'Extra Chorionic Haemorrhage'. I called them after about 5 days of the brown discharge and they got me in that day. Smile

So12345 · 03/10/2019 19:34

Hi I am having the same symptoms as you, I’m 4 weeks close to 5. I have asked lots of different Qs of my GP, on this thread etc. The answer is what @Gustavo1 is saying.. we just have to wait. I went to see my GP on Monday and she has referred me to the Pregnancy Assessment Unit where I’ll have a scan at about 6 weeks. I’m also taking HPTs at regular intervals. Having had an MC before I’d say keep your mind open to any possibility, but try to be positive and I’d say just rest up when you can, get plenty sleep etc. Fingers crossed for you xxx

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 03/10/2019 19:34

Unfortunately it's always been a bad sign for me - I've had 5 mc ranging from 6 up to 12 weeks and all have started with brown spotting

I hope I'm wrong OP x

Lisalou88 · 04/10/2019 08:05

For me I’ve had this happen twice & once unfortunately it did lead to a miscarriage however it happened again in my next pregnancy and everything then turned out to be fine and I’m due next week. I don’t think there is any definite way to know what’s going to happen but I would contact your nearest early pregnancy unit as they should be able to do a scan from 6 weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed for you xx

So12345 · 04/10/2019 10:34

@Lisalou88 I’m in same position as you and OP, this is my 2nd pregnancy, first was miscarriage. I am 5 weeks and been spotting since 3. Did you spot for long? Did it stop? Last time my Dad was in palliative care and I caught Flu so I am hoping those things contributed more to the MC than just spotting...

Thank you all for your replies and actually replying to me. I really appreciate it.

I've been spotting since 4 weeks also but only just found out I'm pregnant. Did everyone else have this for more than a week? From 4 weeks x

On the flip side I’ve had this in both pregnancies with no further complications and 2 babies at the end of it. May well all be fine, and even when I’ve phoned EPAU they’ve just told me to monitor and call back if fresh/red or heavier. It’s very, very common. The second time around I had an early private scan for reassurance, that might be something to consider if EPAU won’t see you?

Gustavo1 · 04/10/2019 19:18

I had what I would describe as spotting on and off for about 7-10 days. I kept thinking it was a dodgy period as o hadn’t long hot them back after my Dc1. After the week I rang the GP and did a PG test. Unfortunately, I had an ectopic pregnancy. I had one incident of spotting in my 3rd and 4th pregnancies but they were both viable.
Keep an eye on things, an early scan is always a good idea. It would be worth calling your epau to see whether you can self refer.

AH16 · 04/10/2019 19:21

@NuffingChora
How long did you have it for? It's only on wiping and not heavy really, not enough for a pad. Il just have to keep a eye out but had it for a week now

I have had spotting for a week and a half. I don’t know if I’m ok or not. I understand the stat of bleeding in pregnancy to be 50% work out ok, 50 don’t. I hope you’re one of the good 50%.

Nikster11 · 04/10/2019 21:24

Hi, just wanted to say hope everything is ok.

I had a similar thing, except my bleeding continued for 4 weeks (weeks 6-10). Always just a little bit of brown or pinky blood every time I wiped.

I had an early scan at 6 weeks due to 2 previous miscarriages and everything was fine. Now 15 weeks pregnant and all ok.

With the miscarriages, I found there was no mistaking what they were - lots of bright red blood with loads of clots.

The doctor told me that so many women have spotting during early pregnancy. Hoping all works out ok for you :).

NuffingChora · 04/10/2019 21:39

@AH16 On and off for at least a couple of weeks. Hope it all works out for you. Try not to worry too much at this stage,

Kinsters · 05/10/2019 03:35

I've had two pregnancies and had brown bleeding in both from around the six weeks mark. One ended in missed miscarriage diagnosed at almost 9 weeks, the other one the pregnancy has continued and I'm almost 28 weeks now. With this so far successful pregnancy my spotting stopped at around 12 weeks, like you it was brown blood and just on wiping - not heavy enough for a pad.

Weirdly the one with the heavier bleeding turned out to be the successful pregnancy. I noticed with my missed miscarriage that the miscarriage bleeding was different (miscarriage diagnosed on Friday and then I had surgery on Monday but over the weekend I think the miscarriage actually started). Anyway, that bleeding had bigger clots and was accompanied by cramps in my cervix.

Kinsters · 05/10/2019 03:36

Meant to say good luck and I really hope it works out ok for you!

LucyDev18 · 05/10/2019 13:42

I am 15 weeks tomorrow. I had a mmc in April and got pregnant again very quickly to mine and hubbys shock. Anyway. I started spotting brown at 6w 2d, i went to the dr she sais old blood but she wanted me to have an early scan due to the mmc, she said ring them in a week if you havent headd from them. So at 7w 3d i rang them still spotting brown every wipe. I was told to come straight in to the epcu, they scanned me baby was fine heart beating away strong, i was delighted, went home gushed bright red blood from 6pm til 2am thought thats it baby gone or about to be, i rang the dr in the morning she said if its stopped which it had try not to worry but if it came back to ring the epcu, so the next day at 7w5d i was back in the epcu as the red bleeding had started again, another scan was done an internal this time, baby fine heart heat strong, couldn't figure where the blood was coming from. Booked me in for a scan 2 weeks later, so at 10w3d i had another scan all perfect, dhe said sometimes people just bleed with no explanation, i had discharge the morning of the scan but nothing after that. At exactly 12 w i went to to toiletat 6am i wipe bright red blood then nothing else. So fast forward to yesterday at 14w 5d my first proper scan in the antenatal clinic. Everything perfect no bleeding since, baby fine perfect size and heatbeat. I was given my file to bring home so i read through it turns out at the 10w3d scan she found a small sch and didnt tell me, no one in the clinic told me yesterday either. Last night about 1:30 am i went to the toilet pink blood this time, the olny thing i can think is that when they put pressure on me doing a scan they. Make the hematoma bleed, i wish someone would have explained to me about it instead of me having to read it then try figure it out, i did think i had one as it looked like i patch on my first wver scan but was told it was nothing, i will ring them on monday when they clinic is open and see what i can find out. I havw a dopplwr my s.i.l lent me so i do feel a bit better this time after the bleeding as i know the babys heart is beating away fine, i listened after the bleeding last night and twice so far today. I hope this might help someone who is feeling scared and confused like i was. All i can say is ho to ur nearest epcu if u are anyway worried.

Moseley16 · 05/10/2019 15:27

Hey!
My contribution isn’t a positive one I’m afraid.
In August 2018 I started with brown spotting around 5/6 weeks. It was scant to begin but over the course of a week it got heavier and eventually turned to red blood. I kept all my symptoms during this time: felt sick, sore boobs, tired etc. I was scanned at just over 7 weeks to discover it was an ectopic.
I got pregnant again in June this year. I had a super early positive which had me a bit suspicious. I had all my normal pregnancy symptoms again, however at 5 weeks they disappeared and soon after I started with the brown spotting when I wiped. Terrified that I was having another ectopic I called my doctor who was entirely unhelyand unsympathetic regarding my fears of another ectopic. She sent me away saying it was probably a miscarriage. I spent 4 terrifying days over the weekend worrying about what was happening until the blood flowed like a normal period and then subsided. I’ve chalked that down to an early miscarriage.
I got another positive a week on Friday. But I’m going through the whole rigmarole again. This time it’s started with bright red blood when I wiped, which changed to brown discharge that comes and goes. This has been going on since Wednesday. I booked for a private scan yesterday at 5 +6 (although I fibbed and said I was dead on 6 weeks as they wouldn’t scan before 6 weeks) as I couldn’t bare the waiting. The scan was inconclusive; whilst she saw something in The uterus it was ‘abnormal’. She said she would expect it to be nice and round with a thick white rim but it was a funny shape. As a result she said they have to call it a pregnancynof unknown location and I’ve been referred to the hospital for bloods and more scans.
It’s such a horrible thing to go through: the uncertainty for me was torture. If your doctor won’t help until you’re further along and you’re desperate for some reassurance I would strongly recommend booking a private scan. Whilst we didn’t get a definitive answer I feel much more calm having been “looked at”. Xx

Sorry to hear about what you have been through. I have found the GP very unsympathetic also. They just tell you to watch and wait as I'm before 6 weeks. Do you know when your scans are? Hoping that its more hopeful Xx

@AH16 i hope you start feeling better soon and it all clears up for you. Let us know how you sre doing x

So12345 · 08/10/2019 18:01

Hi @AH16 sorry I didn’t reply! I’m doing fine. Still some very light brown when I wipe but it’s more like discharge (sorry TMI) with a tiny bit of brown mixed in?? Other than that I have pregnancy symptoms, sometimes really quite sick feeling, sore boobs (and have increased a size!) and I am KNACKERED. I’m hoping this is all good news, but I have imagined symptoms before. So I’m a bit skeptical if myself if that makes sense. I almost feel like I’m making it up that I’m pregnant.
How are things going with you? You ok?
X

AH16 · 11/10/2019 19:42

@LucyDev18

How are you doing?

@So12345

Glad you are doing well. I'm doing better thank you. Still cant believe it to be honest. Having an early scan privately just for reassurance, so keeping positive it will all go well

Hi ladies

This is my third pregnancy, 1 toddler and 1 MMC in June 2019. I'm between 5-6 weeks and just started spotting again. (Like last time). The spotting was brown mixed in discharge when wiping only. And the the next pee there was some red blood (watery) in the background with the brown discharge. It's 4am now but I'm going to try to get an appointment at the Early Pregnancy Unit to have a cervical examination to see where the blood is coming from.

I'm so scared that this is a no go as well. However I just have to trust that my body knows best. If it's not viable, there is nothing I can do.

I hope there are some good news for everyone. I just wanted to share my story.

X
