Braxton hicks ?

Hello ladies,

Can Braxton hicks contractions be painful ?

Where abouts in your belly / back do you get them?

This evening I've noticed painful cramps in my lower right abdomen / groin area and a little bit in my lower back that have come and gone a few times.

Is this Braxton Hicks ? Or should I go to the hospital ?

I'm in my 23rd week of pregnancy.

Thanks,

Angela

If you're worried do you have a number for maternity assessment?

mummytobe2020 · 01/10/2019 21:53

I've been trying to call them for the last two days and no one ever picks up 😭

That's no use! I had lots of weird twinges throughout my pregnancy. Are you feeling the baby move?

mummytobe2020 · 01/10/2019 21:59

A little bit I think. I'm not at the stage yet where I have regular movements. As I have an anterior placenta as well. So they told me I won't have regular movement until 26-28 weeks. I feel her a little most days but never all the time.

I'm 32 weeks and wondering the same. Keeps feeling a bit like a stitch really low down. Also anterior placenta here and didn't properly feel movement until about 25/26 weeks.

It could be ligament pain. I remember having stabbing pains and getting upset at work so I went to the GP and they tested for a urine infection. It turned out fine but I know how worrying it can feel. The GP said I should have gone to maternity assessment but saw me anyway since I phoned in a state! I'd keep trying maternity assessment.

I (think) braxton hicks are when your whole bump goes hard and feels tense, then relaxes - and repeat. They aren’t so much painful as uncomfortable. The stitch-like pain at either side is part of pelvic girdle pain my MW said and can also come and go.

mummytobe2020 · 01/10/2019 22:24

@RubaiyatOfAnyone yeah so today the GP said I had SPD / pelvic girdle pain. I've been really suffering the last few days and can hardly walk. So perhaps what I experienced this evening was part of that whole thing / ligament pain.

No idea. I've also been slightly worried about my appendix. Just because it's right in that place where I felt pain and also it's been SO sore there when I move my right leg or bend to the right. Again, it's very likely to be the ligament. The GP checked me out today and said it's definitely SPD and unlikely to be the appendix. They also did a urine test which showed protein so they've sent it off for further testing.

No idea. I feel fine now! Just the usual pelvic pain when I try to move around. I've also felt pretty upset this evening, just because I STILL have nausea the whole time and just need a break from that. And now the SPD has started, it's just like 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Hello ladies,

Just to update - in case anyone reads this and is feeling similarly.

I finally got through to a midwife this morning and explained everything and she said it's ligament pain/ coupled with the SPD, just like some posters said- so thank you everyone for taking the time to reply to me.

She said it really can get quite painful and cramps at times. I've been referee to physio.

All the best to everyone !
