I’m hoping I’m worrying about nothing

I suffer constipation badly so pregnancy makes it so much worse. I was in pain on the loo for about half an hour. I eventually went and my god did it hurt. It was huge and hard (sorry tmi) but when I wiped there was blood. I know this can be common with constipation and ibs but what’s worrying me is lack of movement from my baby since. There has been nothing. I was hoping once I got in from work and sat with a coffee I would feel something. Surely and I’m sorry for this, doing a huge poop wouldn’t do any harm to my baby would it?? I’m hoping it’s just a coincidence and I feel something later xx

Drink a large glass of very cold water this should make baby move. Good luck xx

This sounds like you've got haemerroids, you might have pushed one down and they tend to bleed. Eat something sweet, drink something cold and lie down. Get checked out though if you're worried. Also some tips here...

You should seek advice for any reduction in movement. If your baby has regular movements and has stopped, you need to call the number in your maternity notes.

NotSoThinLizzy · 01/10/2019 17:21

Blood was prop nothing but if your worried about movements it's worth a phone call just to be on the safe side

Starlight84 · 01/10/2019 17:21

I have just had a cold glass of coke! And some choc! I think because I am waiting for it to happen it’s not! I’m my own worse enemy! I can drive myself mad. Thank you xx

Yes, as above, a cold drink and lie down on your side for half an hour. If no movement after that phone your midwife/maternity triage at your local hospital.

I know from experience that this is what triage have told me to do in the past.

Thanks ladies. The baby is usually most active at night time. If I don’t feel anything later I will be sure to call them. I panic so much it’s untrue :( I don’t recall being like this with my two previous pregnancies 🙄 xx

Oh sorry just read that you haven't felt movement all day - if that's out of the ordinary for you then I would just phone now tbh.

Agree with pp that the poo/blood is likely to be irrelevant (and blood likely to be piles - the glamour of pregnancy!)

Fortheloveofscience · 01/10/2019 17:24

You’ve got 2 issues here, OP:

  1. You’re experiencing reduced movement - go and get checked out, your local unit will monitor baby and reassure you that everything’s ok. They are happy to look at anyone who’s noticed a change in movement pattern so don’t feel guilty.
  1. You’re constipated - this won’t affect baby’s movements and I’m sure you’re already looking at ways to alleviate this that are safe in pregnancy.
Starlight84 · 01/10/2019 17:30

@fortheloveofscience yes I am. I usually take lactulose daily but I’ve ran out and no chance as yet to pop to the chemist as yet. I do try and eat well but it is a struggle! As like I say I can struggle when I’m not pregnant due to ibs. I usually feel movement at night at the moment so I shall be monitoring in to this eve and I shall call if nothing. They must be used to me calling by now anyway 🙈 x

Bless you - re the constipation, there are safe solutions you can take over the counter or from your GP! I struggle terribly!

I take laxido which is prescribed & really good! One sachet a day mixed in juice does the trick nicely but not too much! There is also Luctalose you can get over the counter at the pharmacist!

The blood could be from a minor tear down there.. as a constipation veteran, I often have some blood when I wipe after a particularly painful poo! It feels sore down there afterwards too, sometimes the stretch causes little tears! 😭 it’s not pleasant!

Re-baby moving, I hope everything is ok. It’s not likely to be related but obviously regardless it’s something to get checked out!

Starlight84 · 01/10/2019 17:38

Thanks all. I think I’m just getting in a tizz and it’s coincidence! I will be keeping a close eye tonight and paying the chemist a visit ASAP. I’ll keep you posted :) xx

That's a relief for you OP.

I often would tune out of my babies movements after a hectic day.
I once called triage at 3am because I woke up and realised I hadn't felt my baby move all day or in the night. They got me into hospital for monitoring and a scan. Baby was fine and sure enough started wriggling loads once I got home.
I didn't feel silly at all though. The midwives and drs were glad I had called and we're very helpful.

Next time don't feel you have to wait. Just give them a call.
