Is there a chance I'll get pregnant?

I am posting here as I know there are mums and people who have actively tried or are trying to conceive and could advise me. I am not trying to conceive but have had to switch contraceptive pills over, which means I am not protected from pregnancy for at least a week. Me and my fiancé have had sex last night and plan to as usual and I have just had a period last week which ended on Thursday and I heard it is very rare to get pregnant after your period, does anybody know if this is in fact true? We find condoms uncomfortable I think one of us is allergic to latex and pulling out never works. I could take Ellaone but this will delay the effectiveness of my new pill yet again. I could simply ask a doctor this however I know I will be told I can get pregnant any time of the month but I don't believe this is true, maybe I am wrong which is why I am asking here. I am quite young (20) and don't want a child just yet

Huh? So why don't you just abstain for that week? What are you actually asking?

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2019 22:42

Regardless of the liklihood, if yo u aren't protected from pregnancy and you have sex, there's a chance you might get pregnant

If you don't want to get pregnant, don't have sex when you aren't protected from it.

It's unlikely, but I wouldn't have sex again until you're covered

Frizzy1986 · 30/09/2019 22:42

You can get pregnant at any time, sperm can live inside for up to 7 days and depending on when you release an egg there is always a chance.
If you don't want to have a child yet then either protect yourself or abstain from sex until you are protected. Simple.

NCBabyBoy · 30/09/2019 22:43

If you don't want to get pregnant you shouldn't be having unprotected sexShock Take the morning after pill and use condoms or don't have sex for as long as it takes for your new pill to offer protection - never longer than a week I think?

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2019 22:44

Also you can get the morning after pull which I think covers you for 48 hours after so if you get it tomorrow morning fro yesterday's sex that should work

Possibly not the best person to comment as 2 out of my 3 children have been conceived whilst I was taking the pill! Which is why after this third section I’m being sterilised!

If you are so strong you do not want children I’m sure you could abstain from having sex for one week while the new pill takes affect??

BeanBag7 · 30/09/2019 22:47

Abstain or buy some latex free condoms. It's only one week, just be sensible and don't take the risk because the consequences could be huge and it's not worth it.

Well, with your age, experience, maturity and medical training, you obviously know better.

Mamabear12 · 30/09/2019 22:52

Actually right after your period can be very fertile depending on cycle length. I have two friends who got pregnant having sex right after their periods. I always get pregnant when trying and having sex a few days after my period (pregnant w baby 3). We plan for these babies though and would never take a risk if we didn’t want to get pregnant. Surely you can abstain from sex for a week! Geez. 🙄

In that case, I'd advise against having sex until you believe differently. Jesus.

Clayplease · 30/09/2019 22:57

I'm currently pregnant. At the 12 week scan, (where they tell you how many weeks and days old they estimate it to be) I counted back to when I must have conceived- a week after my period began.

1300cakes · 30/09/2019 22:58

Geez OP it's one week! Just go without or wank each other off!

anonanon11 · 30/09/2019 23:01

For everyone seeming quite exasperated with me, I can abstain that is not an issue. I simply asked for advice and I will obviously try to avoid having a child I'm quite aware that I am way too young I only stopped being a teen a month ago and I am still at university.

I only asked for advice to see if anyone knew if that theory was true. I have said why I don't want to use condoms and I know taking the morning after pill will delay how effective my new pill is

Justmuddlingalong · 30/09/2019 23:06

Your university will have a sexual health advice service. I suggest you visit them for advice.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2019 23:06

and I will obviously try to avoid having a child except you know your pill isn't covering you and you had sex last noght because you think the doctors lie about when you're fertile...
Take the morning after pull and obtain for sex until it covers. You'll last a couple of weeks.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/09/2019 23:06

Also name change fail OP

anonanon11 · 30/09/2019 23:07

I only joined recently I don't know how to change it properly

starfishcoffee · 30/09/2019 23:09

Yes, there's a chance you could get pregnant.Hmm Try latex free condoms?

Mrsmummy90 · 30/09/2019 23:31

If one of you has a latex allergy, buy latex free condoms. They're by a brand called Skyn.

flissity · 01/10/2019 07:32

The cycle that I actually got pregnant (which we were trying desperately to) I ovulated about 3 days after my period. So the fact sperm can survive for 5 days or whatever.... yes you can get pregnant while on period.

Everafter1 · 01/10/2019 08:47

You're covered for the week which is considered your break. Sounds like you've been off it longer, so yeah there's a chance.

I heard it is very rare to get pregnant after your period
If this was the week coming off the pill then that's a withdrawal bleed from the hormones of the pill, not a real period. It's very difficult to say when you will be ovulating (if at all just now).
Best not to risk it, if you're sure you don't want to be pregnant.
