Fungal skin rash

Hi. 15 weeks pregnant and have what the doctors think is a fungal skin infection.

It started as just a 50p size blob on one arm, but is now all over my belly and boobs, and has spread in itchy red patches since I started using an antifungal cream. Just found patches on my back and bum.

Went back to doc last week and was given Canesten cream which is antifungal and hydrocortisone. Apparently they’re limited because of the pregnancy with oral meds.

And to be helpful, I’m getting married three weeks today and don’t want to look like an itchy red mess.

Anyone experienced similar or have any amazing solutions?

Do you ever get eczema? Discoid eczema can sometimes be diagnosed as fungal when it isn't

Sorry I don't have better news but GP prescribed me canesten for athletes foot and it has done literally nothing. I've used the whole tube! Theyve said I'll just have to go back after babys born to get something stronger 🤦🏻‍♀️

I've got the same thing and unfortunately it hasn't cleared up with either daktarin or canesten so far after 2 weeks, and there is nothing else I can use apparently. I'm 37 weeks and wanted to get rid of it before baby comes as I don't want to pass it on :(

I am using tea tree oil now, mixed into my usual stretch mark oil or neat on some of the patches, and they have faded a lot but some are still itchy. Online it says it's safe in pregnancy but obviously check with the doctor first if you're not sure about using it.

Wahhhhhh what if it starts on my visible areas before the wedding? 😷

Neem oil is amazing. It's anti fungal and it has loads of aha's to heal the skin. You'll get it in a health food shop.

dementedpixie · 28/09/2019 12:34

Have they taken skin scrapings to check it is fungal and not something else?

I had this same thing before I went on holiday this year. I used canesten antifungal cream, e45 shower wash. The dr prescribed some antifungal tablets but I'm not sure you can take it during pregnancy. Try tea tree oil shower gel and shampoo too. Mine spread to my scalp.

I really really hope your rash goes down soon xxx

Thanks. I’ve ordered some Neem oil but I’m nervous now!

Sounds like ringworm, I had it last year, started off as one small patch which gradually spread over several weeks. Canesten and daktacort did not get rid at all. I ended up being prescribed oral terbinafine for three weeks but unfortunately you can't take that in pregnancy. I really hope it clears up for you with the tea tree.

Internet is hazy about the safety of tea tree in pregnancy. Anyone know for sure?

Bought the neem oil mentioned above. Despite the stink, feels like it’s helping skin.

THEN I google more and it’s not advised to use in pregnancy 🤦🏽‍♀️😳

Oh no, sorry, I had no idea!

LividLaughLove · 30/09/2019 06:05

As ever, the internet is vague. I think I’m doomed to itch through my wedding!
