Hey,

I have started weaning now and wondering how much is enough milk?

Some days she drinks 23oz and days like today she only drank 15oz even refusing dream feed.

She is getting 3 meals per day is this enough milk?

What age is she? From 6 months to 1 year around 20oz is recommended alongside food

Guidelines say once weaning is established 500-600ml a day is what you should be aiming for. But then when you google it different forums say different things. My Health visitor and midwife used to say different things about stuff too.
500-600ml is a good guide. As long as they are having wet nappies and soft spot isn't sunken (it dips down if dehydrated) then your baby should be fine. Try not to do things by the book, you know what works for your baby.
My baby is 9 months and he averages around 620ml a day - which is 3 bottles for me.

Also don't forget they are getting water which is in the food too. Like fruit pouches and porridge that you make up with either their baby milk or just water. So you'll find they are getting a little more anyway on top of what's in their bottles.

Thanks for the replys she is 5 and a half months we are weaning early since 5 months for medical reasons so wasn't sure if what she is drinking alongside the solids was enough thanks for the advice

Have you tried 2 solid feeds a day, and replacing what would have been her 3rd solid with a bottle?
3 solids might be a bit much for now. However you have been advised for medical reasons, so you know what you've been advised I guess.

We were at hospital today with her again and pediatrics told me to keep with the 3 meals and offer bottles when she will take them one problem we have is she will not drink her milk she point blank refuses I need to wait until her nap times and feed her when she sleeps then she wakes up and spits it out again and won't open her mouth for the bottle so it's hard to feed her unfortunately 🤷‍♀️😞

Ahh Yeah, so you need the 3 feeds then so she doesn't loose weight. You can try little and often milk feeds. Did she feed ok on bottles before introducing her to solids? She might prefer solids to bottle.

xsmx18 · 27/09/2019 00:33

No she's never been good with taking feeds we don't know why that's why they eventually told us to start weaning so she is getting some food before we started she had drank 6oz in 24 hours then the same again next day so we had to start giving her solids so she had some sort of food I've even tried spoon feeding milk and in a syringe 😕

Sounds stressful. Ok, If she is good with solids I think a good thing for you to try would be the porridge that you make up with their milk. Cow & Gate do it. That way she is getting extra milk and fluids in there. 6oz is under yes. But 15oz, and some days 23oz like what you said is a massive improvement.
