Pelvic Floor Woes (TMI)

I'm current 20w pg with #4 at 37yrs old. Between weeks 6 to 16 I had horrendous sickness and literally every time I retched I would wet myself. Thankfully the sickness has subsided, but now every time I cough, sneeze or sometimes laugh I will leak urine. Its mortifying and I never had this before I was pregnant. Also, after I've been to the loo and wiped, sometimes when I stand up urine will dribble out, although I can't feel it.

I'm so upset by all this and can only imagine it will get worse after the baby is born. I never had any of this before I was pregnant either! I'm useless at pelvic floor exercises too. Please can anyone give me any advice or reassurance that it will get better? I feel like it's only me that this is happening to and I just want to cry 😢

When you say useless at pelvic floor exercises do you mean knowing how or remembering to do them?

I'm not a medical professional but surely strengthening them should be a priority?

PS sounds so tough and demoralising for you 💐

There’s an app called Squeezy produced by the NHS. It will help you do them and give you info.

Regarding leaking urine, don’t get up straight away after peeing. Wait, then lean slightly forward, you may get a little pee as it helps your bladder empty completely- I’ve had to do this in my current preg too.

It’s very demoralising but keeping up with pelvic floor exercises will help this a lot.

I feel your pain, i suck at remembering to go pelvic floor. Im 26 weeks with #2 and caught a stinking cold which gave me a cough and i definitely had the odd leak during a coughing fit. Also just sneezed 50 times and had to hang on then aswell. I worry about after too x

I'm going through the same thing. 30 weeks pregnant with #3 and recently had a chest infection where I was full on wetting myself when I coughed. That's a bit better now but I'm still having the same problems as you OP. Worrying about how things hold up after the birth...

From about 8 weeks till 14 I wet myself every time I gagged/was being sick! I just use panty liners daily now to be on the safe side. It's not the best thing in the world but pregnancy isn't always flattering. It'll all be worth it though Blush

QueenBeex · 25/09/2019 20:39

Oh and if you don't want to buy the NHS app. There's a free one called "tat".

Hi op make the pelvic floor exercises a priority for a few weeks and see if it makes a difference....I'm currently 30wks pregnant with my 4th and I'm making time to do the excersises because I know it will help in the long run! your still only 37 so if you dont see a change after the pelvic excersises then go to your gp and see what else can be done....there are all sorts of discreet pads in the meantime and don't be too embarrassed, you have made, carried and will soon have delivered 4 children!

Cazzer1987 · 26/09/2019 02:44

I just got a good app for apple I phone (KPFE it’s called) and using Tena pads might make you feel more comfortable when out and about. Don’t worry it happens to the best of us. I remember being inside my coat with a friend at school, laughing so much and unable to do the coat. I literally just had to sit down on the playground floor and pee there... my laughing quickly went to crying lol. Hope I helped some x

Undo the coat * lol
