Hello all,

I am concerned I have GD. My mum had it when she was pregnant with me and since has type 1 diabetes. I have been told I am going to be checked for it but I feel I'm ticking all the boxes for it already at 20 weeks. At my last midwife appointment I asked the midwife and she said they won't discuss it with me until my next appointment which isn't for another month and then I will have to wait for a hospital appointment.

Do you think I should just sit tight until my next appointment or do you think I should contact my midwife to see if o can be tested early?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

That doesn't sound good enough. I'd definitely insist they test you early.

I live abroad and they sent me for the GTT very early at only 11 weeks. I can only imagine it was because I ticked 2 boxes (age and ethnicity) because normally it's not done until week 24 here I think.

I would contact her and insist. That said, if you do have it, they will put you on the GD diet to manage it before trying medication so if you're really concerned, that is something you can start now.
