Hi all,

Subject says it all I think I’m pregnant (frer tests en route from Amazon as I type!). If I am I will be delighted however there is one major problem in that there is a chance the baby could’ve inherited a genetic condition which cannot be tested for until 11 weeks at the earliest. If the testing is positive I will need to terminate the pregnancy and therefore will not be able to tell any one other than DP until 13 weeks at the very earliest. How easy did you all find it to hide a bump with baggy clothes this early? Or did you even have a bump at all?

You can still tell loved ones. You'll need support if you do have difficulties with the pregnancy.

I didn’t want my pupils to know until I was 12 weeks. I didn’t have a bump, but I’m quite big anyway so it was easier to hide.

Wishing you well in your pregnancy.

Thank you both. I am planning on telling my Mum as she’ll be an invaluable support to me but otherwise I just want to keep things quiet in case the worst happens.

Good to know you didn’t have a bump @grannybags, think I’ll be investing in big jumpers-thank God it’s autumn now!

Are you slightly overweight? Because then you don't show till later.

newuser1654 · 24/09/2019 14:06

@salmonrose I’m pretty much bag on BMI 25 so not technically overweight but there’s definitely some jiggle on the front

Bless you. With my first I didn’t show till about 24 weeks so I think you’ll be fine XX

codenameduchess · 24/09/2019 14:42

you might have some bloating, but no bump. Winter clothes should be comfortable enough for you. I didn't show with my first until 24/25 weeks.

Could you have the harmony/NIPT test before 11 weeks?

Good luck op

I just wanted to say I can sympathise as I've had IVF/PGD to prevent a gene passing on. I'm currently 16 weeks and have no bump. I just look fat and bloated but that's weight gain from before I got pregnant anyway. I'm bigger than I like it be. I could easily get away with telling nobody now.

Baguetteaboutit · 24/09/2019 15:31

With a first pregnancy you start pushing the upper limits of lycra stretch in your genes but you won't look pregnant. Especially because you can live in baggy jumpers through autumn.

Good luck op.

Jeans!

newuser1654 · 24/09/2019 16:43

Hi all I’ve just done a test and it’s negative :( my period is so late though and it’s usually like clockwork and I do feel weird. Maybe I should try again in the morning? Probably just clutching at straws but hey ho. Thank you all so much for your lovely responses Flowers

You should do a test with first morning urine, especially early in the pregnancy because later on the day the hoemones in your urine are more deluted.

Ginandtonic31 · 24/09/2019 18:21

@newuser1654 keep testing to make sure. If you're not have you considered the PGD route when you want to start a family?

newuser1654 · 24/09/2019 19:50

@Ginandtonic31 I’m going to retest in a couple of days to make sure. The PGD route has always been my plan tbh, we weren’t actively trying to conceive. How did you find the process if you don’t mind me asking?

@newuser1654 I struggled with the IVF process at some points (mainly my reaction to the drugs when I was transferring) and it's a long road. I was tempted many times to try naturally. Bit now I'm pregnant this way I'm so glad that I did it and knew from the beginning it didn't have the gene. I hope whichever way works out for you.
