How successful was a sweep if you had one?

Hi ladies. I’m 40 weeks and 2 days. I have a midwife appointment tomorrow where i’ve been told they may offer me a sweep.

If you have had one whilst being over due - how successful were they for you? Curious 😊

Thanks x

I had four with my first and one with my second. With my first I went on to be induced at 40+6. My second I went into labour three days after the sweep so I wouldn't say the sweep did it.

I had one at 37+5 at lunchtime and DS was born at 38 weeks exactly at 9am. So I think it worked. Labour started in earnest at 2am so 7 hours before he landed.

Not at all successful for me.
Had one with DD1 at 40 weeks. Born at 40+6. Declined one with DD2, born at 40+2. Had one at 40 weeks and 41 weeks with DS, he was born at 42 weeks!

I had a couple but they didn't have any effect. I ended up having to be induced.

I had one when I was already 3cms dilated and in hospital and I think it did make things move quicker within an hour I was 7cms. I have only really heard of them doing anything in that situation though. People who I have known who had them when they were not dilated at all didn't have any progression from them.

Good luck!
