Hi all. I was wondering whether to find a cheap second hand coat in a few sizes bigger or buy maternity?? I work in a preschool so expected to be out in all weathers so I need to be both warm and dry! Gives bad rain all week and my rain jacket wouldn’t do up today!

I didn’t have this prob as I had summer babies last time so didn’t have this prob! I don’t want to shell out too much on something that won’t be worn again! X

I just wore my normal coat with a huge scarf to cover the gap!

Wynston · 23/09/2019 23:22

How many weeks are you??

Ginger1982 · 23/09/2019 23:22

I got a maternity coat from mothercare. I still wear it 2.5 years later as it's comfy and has a tie waist, no buttons.

katmarie · 23/09/2019 23:24

I got a maternity coat from ebay, it's a 'blooming marvelous' one, and is lovely, I think I paid £20 for it and its immaculate. I woumd always have a look on ebay, it's very good for maternity stuff.

Everafter1 · 24/09/2019 00:12

I just wore my normal coat with a huge scarf to cover the gap!

This is exactly my plan!

AgesAndAges · 24/09/2019 00:15

I got a nice green parka from h+m in the sale for £20. Not the most stylish but functional, cheap and adaptable at the waist.

EmAreSea · 24/09/2019 00:20

I got a 3 in 1 maternity parka from Seraphine for my birthday. I’m due at the end of October so may not get much pre-baby use out of it but it has a nifty little panel that zips in at the front so I can have baby in a carrier or sling and it’ll fit over both of us. They do something similar in JMB as well. Maybe look into something like that? They’re expensive brand new but I’m sure you could get a secondhand one at a reasonable price.

Starlight84 · 24/09/2019 06:20

I’m 25 weeks tomorrow. Not showing as such. Just looks like I’ve put on weight!

Wearing my other with a huge scarf sounds good but in the garden/playground when I’m in soil/water I don’t want anything flapping open or dangling in my way!

Looked on eBay and nothing ideal in my size at the mo but I’ll keep looking.

It’s good to know @Ginger1982 you’re still wearing one 2.5yrs later! Maybe I should look at investing in one?

So hard to know what to do as it’s literally to see me until the end of term in dec! As I’ll be a hermit come Jan after my section 😂

Thanks for all your replies x

Have you looked at zip us in (www.zipusin.co.uk/) - it's a coat extender you can use later over a carrier/sling for coats with a zip? That or eBay is probably the least expensive. I'm due in Feb so am having the same problem.

Cuppa12345 · 24/09/2019 07:10

I bought a baby wearing coat for £30 off ebay. Right bargain - used it lots when carrying baby in a sling and also the panel can be removed and worn as a normal coat too. I'm using it for my 2nd pregnancy too so worth the investment. I wouldn't get one just for a bump though, def go for the 3 in 1 types with a panel you can remove and wear normally to get your moneys worth

whiskersonkittenss · 24/09/2019 07:10

asda have some nice maternity coats

amehh · 24/09/2019 07:31

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and I bought a coat from primark this weekend just in a size up, just about does up over the bump and will see me through the post-baby winter I think. It was about £30 :)

purplefig · 24/09/2019 07:41

I got a maternity ASOS parka on eBay for about £10. I'm due in Feb, but I got it in August when I knew very few other people would be bidding and I'd get a bargain Grin. Glad I did, it's nice having a coat that does up and I get pretty cold come winter.

DiploCat1 · 24/09/2019 07:48

In my sSeraphine one for the first time today due to the pouring rain. I got it half price from John Lewis website so may be worth a look to see if they still have some. It's very cosy, I will be living in it for the foreseeable future! Due in January so will hopefully get lots of wear pre and post baby.

Starlight84 · 24/09/2019 07:51

That’s great. Plenty of things to explore then! Removable panels sounds good! Think I need to move all the ones that no longer fit out the hallway! It adds to the frustration when you can see them there 😂 x

i got mine from asda recently, best coat ever! cheap too, only £28 - has removable panel. x

codenameduchess · 24/09/2019 07:58

Asda have one for £28, it's a warm, waterproof winter coat and has an extra panel that zips on the front. I'm considering getting it as the panel will be handy for baby wearing too

DappledThings · 24/09/2019 07:59

I got a normal parka from Sainsbury's 3 sizes up. It had a drawstring so pulled in and grew with me. £15 I think.

PrayingandHoping · 24/09/2019 09:42

I've bought a zip in panel expander from Go Outdoors

theydontknowweknow · 24/09/2019 09:48

I bought mine from Jojo Maman Bebe, it has a panel that you put in so can still wear it after, waterproof and warm too!

MindyStClaire · 24/09/2019 09:52

I got a maternity parka from Gap. I was due in April and walk a lot for my commute, so I needed something that closed and had a hood. Well worth it for me.

Eminybob · 24/09/2019 09:55

Try Bon Prix, they have maternity/baby wearing coats, but also convert to a normal coat for afterwards.

DoraNora · 24/09/2019 09:56

I got a lovely one from seraphine last winter and wore both pre and post baby, and am going to wear this winter too ... I think if you pick a looser style (perhaps with a tie waist) it will be good all the time! Excellent quality coat too, it kept me very toasty all winter.

Starlight84 · 24/09/2019 10:05

@PrayingandHoping that looks great! I could add to any of my coats! X

I would definitely invest in a maternity one that can close up- it's supposed to be a cold winter this year and you don't want to leave yourself without a decent coat. Even with the central heating system that is a baby!

There's a long black [[
