Hi all

Last day or two I've had incredibly terrible itching and might have thrush I think. I've never had it before! I checked with a mirror and my labia are very swollen, so now I'm not sure. It's difficult to walk because it's so uncomfortable. I've had a warm bath which helped while I was in there but now out of ideas to relieve the itching and soreness.

I'll be calling the GP first thing tomorrow but anyone have any experience of this and any home remedies. Not sure how I'll sleep and need to be up with my 1 year old at 7am and at work at night 9am tomorrow 😣

It does sound like thrush I’m afraid, that how I normally go when I get it especially my labia swollen and discharge. Know it’s not easy but have you tried either lose on no underwear when possible ?

HeartvsHead · 24/09/2019 06:55

How many weeks are you? I've had it on and off from 24 weeks (now 34!). It clears but keeps coming back due to the hormones and not helped by needed antibiotics a few weeks ago.

If you can't get a doctors appointment the external cream is safe to use just speak to the pharmacist. It's the oral tablet you want to avoid. My midwife said to avoid the pessary if possible as is some risk of introducing infection but it is safe to use if needed.

Eating natural yoghurt/activia can help also.

I'm 31 weeks. Phew! It's unpleasant obviously but the swollen labia really worried me so good it's another symptom of thrush in a way as not harmful to the baby.

Ive been wearing organic cotton panty liners for the discharge so may change those. I wore tights yesterday and underwear is a bit tight as I've put on quite a bit of weight this pregnancy too. It helped to take it all off when home from work yesterday. Might have to buy a few bits in bugger sizes for the next few months then!

Thanks all

Not sure that the baggy/ no underwear was a more kind thing but it helped me massively it’s just not the easiest thing to do. Yes the swelling I had so don’t worry too much in that. Also I’m sure you been told to avoid sex as well

Cuppa12345 · 24/09/2019 07:07

I have been avoiding sex anyway, just can't be bothered! Hard enough to find the energy to make my packed lunch for work in the evening to be honest 🙈

lol, I’m the joys of pregnancy hey lol all worth it in the end. Told my hubby he doesn’t realise how lucky men are lol

Sounds like thrush. Get the cream and pessary combo. Insert pessary with finger not applicator.
The cream alone won’t work, pessary is absolutely safe in pregnancy. See gp if it doesn’t settle.

melissa1215 · 24/09/2019 09:01

You can get a pessary from the chemist but I think they tell you to avoid using the applicator just use your fingers as it can irritate the cervix I think

Brilliant, thanks all! Definitely don't want it dragging on, I've got to deliver a 2 day training course starting tomorrow and don't want to be suffering the whole time!
