Terrible groin pain 36 weeks

Not sure if it’s the baby sitting really low but as soon as I sit down and stand up the pain is borderline unbearable, as if the baby is about to fall out of me. I’ve got hideous upper back pain as well. I’m 36 weeks. Any suggestions for relief?

Meant to add feels like my pelvis is going to make me collapse when I stand up...

Sounds like PGP to me.
Take care with anything that means you need to open your knees more than a fist distance apart (get into a car model-style - sit down first then swivel your legs. Repeat in the opposite order getting out).
See your midwife ASAP to see if a belt would help.

If it feels like you’re being jabbed by a red hot poker then no idea what it is but I had that and all was fine (maybe baby moving further south) but if you have any concern at all then you should be seen. Do not take risks. Go and be seen. Don’t just post here. Go.

I can remember that pain from 13 years ago!

CharlieSon · 21/09/2019 21:03

Thanks all, perhaps it is PGP. I’m absolutely fine walking around but as soon as I stand from sitting even for 5 mins I feel like my legs are going to give way. Not sure I can cope another 4-6 weeks! I know I shouldn’t complain compared to what others go through. The upper back pain has been permanently there since about 20 weeks x

Probably PGP. I had that but also quite nasty stabby pains a couple of days before DS arrived (38 weeks exactly) which I’m guessing was baby’s engaging?

GoBackToPartyCity · 21/09/2019 21:14

I had this...it’s commonly known as fanny daggers. It wasn’t anything to worry about.

Eslteacher06 · 21/09/2019 21:15

It's PGP. I'd read up on it. As pp said, be careful about opening your legs as it will get worse. I found it complete agony near the end cause I didn't listen. I'd also consider early may leave if you're working. I had to, but it made a massive difference!

RandomMess · 21/09/2019 21:16

I had that loads with one of mine!! I remember being in near tears when I first stood up at work and then half way along the corridor it would be ok Confused

With subsequent pregnancies I got severe SPD early on.

Plenty of rest and assume it could be SPD to prevent risking it.

Yes, red hot poker dagger pain. I remember that with DD2. I didn't know it had a name but it bloody hurt. Good luck OP Flowers not long to go. DD2 was nearly 3 weeks late

CharlieSon · 21/09/2019 21:32

I’ve had those “lightening” sensations on and off but they haven’t been unbearable, just an odd feeling. Upper back pain - feels like I’ve been winded or thumped. Awful! Only walking relieves it but temporarily. Would love to lie down but just can’t ☹️

Eslteacher06 · 21/09/2019 21:58

Why can't you?

CharlieSon · 21/09/2019 22:21

It’s too uncomfortable and I can’t get up after as too painful

I'm 30 weeks and have spinal arthritis and pregnancy related sciatica however yesterday after washing my car (carefully, within my limits), I've been having pains right across my pubic area when I stand up and walk.. I was going to post but this thread makes me think pgp? Any advice?

Really hope your paint eases OP, and baby isn't too far away now!!

Eslteacher06 · 22/09/2019 07:48

The main thing is rest but you can use a pelvic girdle to lift the bump or try banding which gives support to your pelvic girdle

Cantthinkofanameeee · 22/09/2019 08:00

Me!!...Its been the last week...I'm 34+3 groin feels permanatley open...or as if I've had my legs open for for ages and it hurts when I close them.Or sit down.Vagina feels full & bruised.Like the bones. And back pain...I went to my g.p last week. And she said it's just hormones loosening the muscles ect...🤷‍♀️ So il have to live with it it seems...but it's really getting to me.Squatting down to sit on the toilet really hurts.Sitting upright really hurts and puts loads of pressure on my vagina muscles. The pelvis & groin bones feel really stiff...I'm guessing it is just normal...But I feel your pain...And the thought of another 5 weeks like this doesnt seem do able :(

Tini17 · 22/09/2019 08:00

PGP. It’s awful. See if a belt / girdle helps? Hope it eases for you.
As PPs have said, careful with opening legs (getting in/ out the car, up/down steps only one at a time etc), way too easy to get stuck in an agonising position :(

It sounds very much like spd, especially going to get bad if baby has started engaging. Have you got a midwife appointment soon? You can get yourself double checked for reassurance there.
