Have you had your anomaly scan? Maybe your placenta is at the front which can mask movements at this stage.

LucaFritz · 20/09/2019 00:31

No i haven't but ive been feeling kicks and movement for weeks can the placenta move around and change that ?

At this stage it's quite possible that baby has moved position so you can't feel the movements, however you should still phone up. They should at least check you over and listen to baby's heartbeat

Mintypea5 · 20/09/2019 00:37

At 21 weeks baby is still very small and can easily change position so you can't feel it. You could ring for a chat but I think they'll likely tell you it's too early for regular movement / baby is very small.

In my area they won't even check you with the Doppler until 24 weeks because before that is just too early

Teddybear45 · 20/09/2019 00:39

As you felt regular movement and it has stopped definitely call your MW unit. The policy is now to spot patterns and most units don’t wait until 28 weeks to investigate.

LucaFritz · 20/09/2019 00:42

Will give them a call now then not that i have any way of getting to hospital if i do need to go..
I had the heartbeat checked with a doppler at my 18 week midwife appointment and it picked it up instantly so not sure why your area won't do that for you Confused

Phone your hospital and they will get you in to have a little listen. They like to check you over. At this stage I do believe their pattern can change but I'm no dr or expert. Good luck OP xx

I am 27 weeks, i went to the hospital last week for reduced movements and they ssid theres still a lot of room for baby to move at this stage so may be kicking towards the back and u cant feel it, her heartbeat was fine then the next day she must of moved again and back to her wriggly self. So dont worry but always go up to get checked x better safe than sorry x

LucaFritz · 20/09/2019 01:33

Called the maternity number in my book and spoke to a nice midwife who said my placenta has probably just changed position so i can't feel him atm! I didn't even know till tonight that placentas can move i thought they were stuck to the side of your uterine wall Confused had a quick google on them and hoping it doesn't end up as placenta previa when i come to give birth!
But glad i don't need to go into hospital and baby is fine as far as i know Smile

Did they not offer you to go in for reassurance? That's odd they didn't ask that if not x

Squeakybubbles26 · 20/09/2019 03:51

@LucaFritz this happened a lot around 20-25 weeks with DD2, she had days she moved a lot more than others. Baby is still only little and like others have said they've prob just moved into a different position etc. Have you tried drinking ice cold water? That used to work a trick for me! Try to relax, and if your still worried/concerned tomorrow give them a call back up but I'm sure everything is fine :)

LucaFritz · 20/09/2019 21:05

He's fine and kicking away regularly today hasn't stopped since this afternoon Confused maybe he just needed to give his legs a rest he's been at it since i was 16 weeks pregnant he must be knackered Grin

Glad all is ok OP. ☺️ it's such a worry when you don't feel them move for a while because it's literally all you can concentrate on! It doesn't get any easier when they are here either 😩 the worry that is!

mummytobe2020 · 21/09/2019 12:12

Hey, I'm 21 weeks as well- with anterior placenta. I've been feeling tiny twitches since the end of week 19. Some days I will feel the baby a lot, or even 3 days in a row I will feel the baby a lot- followed by quiet days where I'll only feel the baby a hand full of times. I called up the Maternity unit yesterday and they said it's completely normal at this stage, as there is so much room for the baby to move. So it just depends where the baby is, as to how much you feel it.

I hope they're right? Now reading everyone's stressed out messages to get the heart rate checked have worried me. They told me I won't have a pattern until 26-28 weeks. If it happens that I feel fewer movements after that point, then they would have me come in, but not before. It does make sense, especially with anterior placenta, as the baby might literally be kicking the placenta sometimes and it might not be strong enough yet for me to feel that.

Squeakybubbles26 · 22/09/2019 03:08

@mummytobe2020 I had an anterior placenta with DD1 and I didn't start to feel stronger movements until the mid 20's. Is this your first pregnancy? Even with DD2 who's placenta was behind (can't think of the correct term 🙈) she had days when movements were stronger and others were quiet days. Baby is still only small and like the maternity unit said there's so much room for them to move around, and annoyingly with the anterior placenta it may block a lot of those movements!

Andersonx3 · 22/09/2019 07:00

I called at 23 weeks as I'd been feeling movements regularly for weeks, I called the out of hours midwife and she was more than happy to have me in. I went to my local maternity department (it was about 10pm) and had baby's heartbeat checked but as if felt literally nothing for 24 hours they gave me a quick scan, mind this didn't happen til 3am so it was a long night! I imagine they would put you as a lower priority due to being earlier on but still, they really eased my mind. Baby wasn't moving on the scan but her heartbeat was fine and they said she could have just been relaxing!! Next day was business as usual. I'm sure baby is fine but please call and get an opinion!
