I just received a letter to see a consultant at the obstetric anaesthetic clinic.... I have no idea what this is for and is it standard? Google hasn't helped me Hmm

I will be 34+4 at the time of the appt.

All the other appts I have been aware of so this one surprised me

Thank you!

Do you have any pre-existing medical conditions?
I have one at 34 weeks because I've previously had a collapsed lung and also have a heart condition so we need to go over birth options etc.

I have hypermobility and that's caused pelvic girdle pain, but that's it.. nothing major enough to cause consultancy led care?

Maybe give the hospital a call to find out more, it does sound odd not to have been told you'd be getting a referral.

It might be a standard appointment that is made if you meet certain criteria eg problems with your spine that might make an epidural difficult, or if you are overweight, or have any type of clotting disorder.

Or are you having a caesarean? It could just be a pre-op appointment for that.

Thank you.. I will.

Bmi and weight is fine, I'm 5ft 3 and weigh 9.6 stone.
No medical history
I'm on iron tablets and that's it...
We haven't even discussed birth plans with them yet!

Hmm strange! Thank you Smile I will call them now!

Oh that’s odd. I was under a cons for all my pregnancies due to previous issues (I also had awful pgp made worse by my hypermobility) but never once had an appt with anaesthetics. Have said you might be wanting an elective section? That’s the only reason I can think that you’d be offered one. I’ll echo pp’s & say give them a call to find out.
