Struggling to eat right

Since I've been pregnant my diet has been absolutely awful. I used to eat really healthy plant based diet loads of fruit, veg, nuts etc and since being pregnant (I'm 18 weeks now) I haven't been able to stomach most of the stuff I used to eat I've especially gone off veg! Now all I want to eat is plain food like chips, crisps, pizza and drink fizzy pop!! Yesterday I had 3 cans of fizzy pop, a whole pizza and a cheese sandwich. How can I start eating better when even the though of vegetables is making me want to vom Confused is anyone else struggling to eat healthy? I feel so guilty but I guess it's better than not eating or at least that's what I'm telling myself to feel better Sad

Don’t worry, babies take what they need! I’m 14 weeks with Hyperemesis and I haven’t touched a vegetable since 6 weeks. And I too am normally a really healthier eater with a varied, often veggie diet! I do take a multivitamin (without iron in it - makes me more sick) so I hope baby is getting something from that at least.. they are so so tiny, they don’t need a huge amount at this stage.

Fingers crossed you might start feeling a bit more interested in food soon.. my last pregnancy, 20 weeks was a turning point for me. The second half of pregnancy I ate relatively back to normal bar sometimes avoiding heartburn inducing foods!

If you can face it, could you manage a smoothie for some fruit? Even at the height of my sickness, tinned peaches were something I could eat. I eat tins & tins of spaghetti hoops which is a portion of veg .. and also plain jacket potatoes with cheese. Potatoes are full of vitamins! And cheese is good calcium.

It’s not easy when you feel sick to eat healthily but just do your best.. a multivitamin is better than nothing!

I lived on dry rice crispies for about 12 weeks. 'Baby' will be 18 in a couple of months and towers over me. It will be fine!

I'm 39 weeks and about 98% ice cream, remaining 2% biscuits. Couldn't stop craving sweet stuff the whole time! I had similar with my first but not as bad and they've turned out fine, baby gets all the good stuff first so it's more yourself you're affecting than them. Be kind to yourself and just have healthy days when you feel more up to it.

Thanks for these replies they've made me feel soooo much better @Bol87 good suggestions I didn't even think of spaghetti hoops counting as one of your five a day! I can eat those. Don't think I could stomach a smoothie but you've made me fancy tinned pineapple now you've mentioned tinned peaches. Now I'll be worrying about all the sugar as well though 🙈 I do love being pregnant but the food thing and worrying about what your eating isn't very enjoyable!
