Incorrect Gender Scan?

AlphabetMummy · 15/09/2019 18:25

So this is our 4th child, and with the other 3 the comment was "oh its defo a boy!!!!" Everytime! Cue embarrassed faces and comments about big willys lmfao!
This time tho, the woman spent ages looking and then, although she told us she thinks its a boy, she stressed that she was in no way 100% sure.
Were stressing over names, as you do, and I joked that were going to spend months deciding on a boys name for the gender to be wrong, and him to pop out a little girl!! The sort of off the cuff joke that makes us all think...

So before booking a 4D scan mainly to double check the sex.... Anyone else had incorrect gender at 20 weeks??

(Fyi, all 4 children have same Daddy)

Thanks :D

Lots of people have an incorrect sex scan, especially if the sonographer says they weren't sure. It's nothing to do with penis size or whether they have the same dad. It's just based on the position the baby is lying in and whether they can get a good angle to see the genital area. You probably don't need to book a 4D scan as a 3D one should be able to see the sex but theres no guarantee.

When you go for a 3D scan they don't look at the gender in 3D its 2D, so unless you want face pics id just pay for 2D.

My niece had 3D/2D gender scan and was told boy, it was confirmed girl at 20 weeks...

HJWT · 15/09/2019 19:09

Should of said sex...

AlphabetMummy · 15/09/2019 19:17

Oh should have said, looked into prices and if were going to go and double check the gender, we may as well spend a bit extra and do 4D as well. 4D was nothing to do with double checking sex :)

I was told boy at 16 weeks (private scan) and girl at 20 weeks (NHS) then boy again at a further scan at 22 weeks (NHS). None of them were 100% to be fair as baby was being awkward so it obviously can be quite tricky. I can let you know who was right next month when he / she arrives!

BikeRunSki · 15/09/2019 19:23

The sonographer who did my NHS anomaly scan at 20 weeks thought -but was not certain- that dc2 was a boy. We had a private sex scan at 22 weeks which showed (correctly) that the baby was a girl.

Mintypea5 · 15/09/2019 19:24

I've been told it's more likely to be told girl and be incorrect than boy. They will never tell you they're 100% tho because they don't want you to blame them if it's wrong!

If it's stressing you out I'd book a scan to check. Always nice to see baby again.

I'm having regular growth scans and still ask the sonographer to double check she's still a girl because I'm worried I'll get excited and will turn out to be a boy again 🙈

maloofhoof · 15/09/2019 19:39

I was told girl at my NHS 20 week scan. However it was a boy.

AlphabetMummy · 15/09/2019 20:30

Mintypea5 - i know the feeling! Wondering if its just wishful thinking and itll be a boy again! Lol

Would we even believe it if they said its a girl now lmfao!! This is our last, no matter the sex. And i wouldnt mind another boy, but to be less out numbered would be lovely lol!

Thanks guys.. think ill book the scan, but not setting my hopes high! Though, as much as the idea of a girl is lovely, i dont know what to do with one after 3 boys lmao!!! :D

3 scans told me a girl.
Was a boy.
After 5 dbs dd was a bit pissed!!

@AlphabetMummy I agree probably that they couldn't get a proper look to confirm. I have mine on Saturday (early private one 🤞🏻 we get a clear view lol)

@HJWT that really isn't a necessary comment... it's an easy thing to say....I've booked a private one and the companies all call it a gender scan I highly doubt anyone who refers to it as that has any malicious intentions
