Can you tell the position of the baby?

Hi all, I saw my midwife last week who said the baby was head down but not engaged. Obviously she is the professional and knows best but it just doesn’t feel like the baby is in that position to me. I’m getting all my movement and kicks in the left and right on my stomach. Nothing in the pelvic region and nothing in my ribs. Just wondered where you should feel movement if the baby’s head is down?

Thanks all

My babies head is down im 32wks, she is laying on my right side i feel kicks high up on either side & down below i feel her hands and hiccups.

That sounds normal to me for baby's head down and fairly similar to where I had movement. I've never felt movement in the "pelvic region" and both of my babies were head down from 28 weeks or before. It's definitely possible to mistake baby's bum for head or vice versa and thus miss a breech presentation, but I don't think the baby is likely to be transverse or anything. If you're worried, maybe ask her to explain to you at your next check how she can be sure.

I'm 31 wks with 2nd baby, baby is head down and I get the foot poking out / kicks on my right side. It's only later when baby is running out of space that I'll expect to get jabbed in the ribs!

Forgot to add I’m 36 weeks and midwife says baby is measuring big. Not sure if that makes any difference xx

My baby is breech (38 weeks) as shown on US scans. Midwives have all thought it was head down. I feel sort of flutters in pelvic area and kicks around rib area. I also can definitely feel the head in my rib area.

@Wiltshirelass2019 sounds right to me, DS is head down bum and back on the left and feet on the right like a C shape, now and again may kick me under the ribs & he is 6LB 3 now (35 weeks) I have scans so it's definitely right x

Thanks both. Forgot to add I feel two hard ball shaped, one to the right and one to the left, which body parts could they be?

Depends where babies feet are! If there legs are in the tradition crossed position you'll feel the kicks in the middle, if they are doing an upside down squat you'll feel them under your ribs.

With DC2 I could feel exactly where she was, but she was breech and I could tell one foot was on my cervix! I was absolutely correct, she got a foot out before I could have my section!

I'm 35 + 4 and baby is head down and 3/5 engaged apparently. Most of the movement I get is on my upper right side but not as high as my ribs, But I'm also getting punched in the bladder a lot and can feel it quite low down if baby gets hiccups. I think baby is head down and curled round slightly so the bum is slightly to the right if that makes sense.
