I had to see my gp in the end for heartburn. Nothing over the counter touched it and I was in tears daily. It’s horrendous. I was given ranitidine but sadly it’s not working. I’m going to finish the course then go back as he advised and ask for the other. Its why I’m still awake. It ruins my whole day! I’m glad it’s my only symptom as this makes up for anything else :( wouldn’t wish it on anyone! I’m 23+4 and I’ve suffered from the start! X

I’m with you! Up to now Rennies have provided a quick fix but they no longer cut it.
I now take Gaviscon (which makes me gag 🤢!) and that is helping.
I’ve heard a lot of ladies say that they have been prescribed Omeprazole which might work.
Otherwise, since DS has started school we have started to eat earlier (5pm ish) which helps for the night time (although I miss demolishing a few biscuits with evening tv!) I also find milk helps too.
If you’ve tried all of that I would def get down to the GP. Good luck!

Try a wedge cushion. Helps you sleep up a bit. I've always suffered with heartburn due to GERD and this cushion made a difference. I'm 22 weeks now and definately suffering more but noticed when I was away last week and didnt take my cushion it was worse.

Top tips - I probably have 'moderate' pregnancy heartburn; I get very painful symptoms several times a day but I can manage them as below. If yours is really severe then getting something strong through your GP is going to be the best bet.

If you're taking Gaviscon or similar (I get Peptac on prescription but you can also buy it), hold a sip of water in your mouth before you put the medicine in. This stops it from coating your mouth and making you gag.

Do a food diary to try to identify particular trigger foods for you. Mine include drinking squash, chocolate, anything even mildly spicy or acidic etc.

Kefir! I have a bottle of mild tasting kefir in the fridge (get mine from Sainsbury's) and it's bloody amazing. Just a quick swig works INSTANTLY for me.

@blanketstatement oooh I’m totally going to try the sip of water trick! TY!

thanks for responses - I mean dont get me wrong it's so worth it but its the sore throat and lack of sleep because of it, just makes me feel really unwell all the time! milk does help during the day and I've tried a few over the counter but it wakes me up during the night :( and I also get quite bad anxiety which the lack of sleep and feeling ill does nothing to help! I will book a gp appointment this week I think, I didnt know they could prescribe you stuff for it! x

@Hopex3 I had to in the end. What with constipation, heartburn and thrush I was at the end of my tether. I did a post and I was absolutely slated for even thinking of going to my gp! Someone even suggested talking to my husband! Well I don’t even have one of them! It was hilarious! But the gp found it funny also and he said no I absolutely did the right thing in going and advised me to go back if these aren’t affective. Which they aren’t so I shall be going back to try something else when I’ve finished the course. If over the counter isn’t working definitely don’t suffer with it. You want to be comfortable. I don’t even have to eat or drink anything. It’s just there. So I can’t even pin point a trigger. I also wake choking on acid which then gives a real sore throat and barely swallow. Good job my baby boys worth it! X
