Sweep at 38w?

My next midwife appointment is on Monday at 38+5. Do you think there's any chance they'll offer me a sweep or is that too early?

It's my first so I really don't have a clue. I've been getting some pretty intense fanny daggers and feeling a lot of pressure, so am hopeful that means things are progressing in the right direction and a sweep might just be the ticket to get things moving. Equally though I don't want to be going in with expectations and then find out it's a no-go.

If there's a chance that they might offer me one is there anything sensible I can do to prepare? Paracetamol or anything? Again, no idea what to expect.

Thanks in advance!

I'm 39 weeks and my midwife told me that it wouldn't be offered until 41 as it's more effective there but did say they can do it at 40 if things are moving along. I take the approach of asking can't hurt but don't expect a yes. as for paracetamol I'm with my first so can't offer advice there

I'm not sure tbh. I went to 42 weeks and was never offered a sweep! If you are, take it!

With my first sweep wasn’t offered until you went over full term,I was an apt at 40+3 but went into labour naturally at 39+5.
With my 2nd I had a sweep at 37+4 as I was due induction at 38 weeks.
The sweep worked and I went into labour that night. However she was head down from 30 weeks with her head in my pelvis (scans had shown) and I had taken progesterone pessaries until the previous week to prevent pre term labour.
There is no harm in asking for an examination- but she might not do it. This would at least tell you if your cervix was soft, dilated etc. But I’d not get your hopes up

I saw the midwife today at 37+6. I have a consultant appointment next week at 38+5 and the midwife told me to be prepared that they may offer me a sweep on that day.

In my area they won't do it til 40 weeks. I got one at 38+6 because I was being monitored for reduced movement and was due to be induced the following day (he was born that night so I missed that!) but that was unusual.

Pretty sure when I was pregnant with my dd, midwife said they don't offer until you're 40 weeks

You're still really early so they shouldn't really be offering it to you until at least 40 weeks.
