Hi ladies so next Wednesday I have my first midwife appointment (booking appointment) I'll be 8 weeks. While I'm there will she book my dating scan? Also do I get a say of when I would like it to be or does she just book it for whenever? X

NHS Trusts do vary, in ours you get given a number to ring and you book it through that directly at the hospital.
There is an element of choice however appointments were few and far between so to get it within the relevant time period there were only a couple of slots.

  1. yes, probably
  2. maybe, depends how busy the hospital is.

Same with my trust. You got the phone number at the booking appointment and sort it yourself, however there can be limitations depending as with every appointment. Plus it took me 10 attempts to even get someone to answer as they only had one line so it tripped to an out of office message if they were already on a call.

In my area, the midwife works out when you’d be roughly 12 weeks based on your last period, then rings the ultrasound department while you’re sat there and asks them to list off available appointments for that week and you choose which one is most convenient.

Depends on your trust. With ours you have your booking appointment and then you get your appointment for your scan through the post. Midwife is usually able to give us a rough idea as our hospital only do dating scans on certain days and they knew they had a back log. We don’t really get a choice when it is, I imagine you’d be able to change it if you were away or something though.

Mine was same as post above, I'm due to get mine through the post from the hospital. Its been a week since my booking appointment and I've not received anything but midwife did say it could take a couple of weeks.

They will advise how it works at the appointment but everywhere is different.

Thanks ladies.

My appointment is in the women's services at the hospital and everything is in the same department so I hope she books it while I'm there.
