Mucus Plug Question!

Hey!

So I know they call it a 'show' and sometimes a 'bloody show' but, does a mucus plug always have to have blood in it?

I'm 38+5 and I'm having a lot discharge at the moment that's mucus like/sticky/snotty (sorry TMI!) and I just wondered if this was the mucus plug or if it definitely has to be pinky/brown/contain blood to qualify?

I can also feel baby being really low down and heavy on the lower part of my bump at the moment. I'm scheduled in for a c-section because she was breech last time they checked so going into natural labour before they can check again isn't really ideal (I'm convinced she's turned though).

Just wondered that if this is my mucus plug, how long should I expect labour to start? I've had lightening pains this week too which I've read could happen hours or even weeks before labour. If only we had a crystal ball!

Anyone able to answer my mucus plug question? 😊

Honestly it could be or it could not. You only tend to notice it and know for sure if it comes out as a large blob which can be clear, blood tinged etc. Its quite jelly like from what I've read/seen in photos.

A lot of the time though you won't notice it as it can come out in dribs and drabs and as you often have an increase in discharge at this stage, it just gets mixed up in it so you can't be sure. And each mum will have a slightly different mucus plug as we all have different secretions to make the plug in the first place.

I don't remember losing it for my first but it was 5 years ago and am now 37+2 with #2 and the past few days my discharge has really increased, but no massive blobs that give the game away for sure.

A crystal ball would be great, the not knowing is what kills you as you are constantly reading every symptom and sign, just like when you got pregnant in the first place.
I was already in labout at this stage last time so it feels very odd.

A bloody show is different to losing your mucus plug.

You can lose some of your plug throughout pregnancy and it regenerates. It's not necessarily a sign that labour is close.

A show is normally blood tinged and could be a sign that labour is nearing

Mine didn't have blood in it. Have you looked up mucus plug images on Google? It's quite different to normal mucus cm. There was no mistaking mine 😂😂

@CarolineKate really regretting looking up those images on google 😂 similar though! Just no blood! Ah maybe I'm just wishful thinking!
