My first post and feeling a little crap.
For the past year I have been going through all the prep for a gastric bypass. Then my husband and I got a huge shock finding out I'm 8 weeks pregnant with our third baby even though a suprise it's a much wanted baby but now I'm hitting the reality of having a huge bmi in pregnancy and struggling as it is never mind carrying a baby as I get further on so does anyone have any advice to keep myself and the baby as healthy as possible everything I have searched on google says you shouldn't loose weight in pregnancy thank you for reading.

If you're already overweight then you are fine to lose weight while pregnant as long as you don't do anything too restrictive and generally follow a healthy diet. You can still do SlimmingWorld while pregnant for instance.

I know someone who was obese and lost weight during pregnancy for health reasons. She did it under the supervision of a doctor and registered dietitian. In your position, I'd get medical advice.

The aim should be to stay the same weight rather than lose weight. I think you should maybe talk to your GP and ask for a dietitian referral.

They say you shouldn't lose weight in pregnancy, even with a higher BMI, but focus on healthy eating which could have the effect of losing weight. The midwife did mention Slimming World to me as that is one they do allow, as again the focus is meant to be on balanced healthy eating.

There is a plus size/high BMI pregnancy thread on the pregnancy board if you want to come and join us.

I didn't lose weight during pregnancy but my post pregnancy weight was lower than pre pregnancy weight. Obviously talk to your doctor/midwife about what you can and can't do in relation to exercise but mine was happy for me to continue with zumba and running until 6 months and up until birth I walked around 6km per day. As long as it is a normal pregnancy you shouldbe able to keep doing exercise. Also might be worth talking to a nutritionist who can help you with meal plans.
