How successful are sweeps?

So next friday 20th at my midwife appt I'll be getting a sweep. I'll be 38+5 and it's my second baby. I'm just wondering how successful they are and if how far along I am or if it being my second has any affect on the likelihood of it working. I'm booked in for induction on the 24th and would rather it happen more 'naturally' from the sweep. And if anyone has any success story of if you induced naturally; sex, long walks. Would be great

They worked all three times for me but I was two days overdue and already slightly dilated. I don’t think they work if you’re not already dilated a little.

Statically they are 1 in 8 effective. I have had 2 and nothing much has happened since, except a bit of mucusy discharge. It all depends on how ready your baby and cervix are. I don’t know why you’re having a sweep before 40 weeks though? My midwife refused until I was 40 weeks.

I was refused sweeps even at 39+6 as you need to be 40+ to get one where I live. I had one when I was 2cm dilated but my waters had already gone. Baby was born 12 hours later after a really short active stage which I put down to the sweep.
