Early scan dated me 10 days smaller

Hi all,

I had an early scan due to one instance of very slight spotting - thankfully, all was seen to be ok and they were very certain everything looked "perfect".

My worry is - I was sure about my dates and they would place me at 7 and 5, however at the EPU they dated me 6 and 2 from the early scan. There was a strong healthy heartbeat and they said it was difficult to accurately date at this early stage, but it's nevertheless got me worried!

Has anyone else had a similar experience?!

Yes, I measured exactly 10 days behind with my first too. Went back two week later and everything was fine but the kept the changed date. You've got to think how tiny it is right now and the measurement being off by only a mm can make a difference.

If you've seen a heartbeat that is a really, really positive sign. Even at that early stage I think it bring your risk of miscarriage down to 90-something %. You may just have ovulated late or your dates may change at your dating scan.

I had an early scan at what we thought was 7+3 due to a couple of episodes of spotting. They dated me 6+1. A couple of weeks later baby had gained a day and by the 12 week scan had gained another few days. I'm 17+5 now and everything seems to be ok. I know it's a really worrying time whatever reassurance you're given and it really is just mm at this stage. I hope everything goes well for you

Hi hun firstly congrats! And secondly don’t panic I had an early scan and was put a week back to what I thought but baby is so small it’s hard to tell so then at my 12 week scan I had caught up and was actually 13 weeks and now currently 23+2 with a very active baby girl! X

Thanks all - I really appreciate the replies and am trying to let it help me put my mind at rest. I made the mistake of googling it and there are so many people that were in similar situations with bad outcomes - it makes it so difficult not to worry.

I think what adds to the worry is that I'm having very few symptoms too.

Anyway, I've decided to book a private early scan for Tuesday next week - I'll update you on the outcome.

Thanks again!

Dated small and no heart beat seen when you should be 7 weeks would be something I would worry about but that isn't your result. You saw the heartbeat. That's an excellent sign! I think it's good to get the scan next week if you want the reassurance but I really think you're looking good to have a baby next year. Many congratulations!

Hi all,

I didn't want to leave a thread without posting an outcome so just came back to say that unfortunately for me it was a missed miscarriage.

Thank you all for the support x
