Booking appointment

Hi all,

I had my booking in appointment with the midwife today.

At the appointment she mentioned because it’s my 2nd pregnancy my first scan will be at 16 weeks.

Does this mean I only get one scan? She never mentioned one at 12 weeks.

Just a bit confused as I thought all women get 2 NHS scans.

That’s unusual, but it must be your area because mine is 12 weeks and 20 weeks. So you won’t get a dating scan until 16 weeks? I thought that if you wanted nuchal fold measurements it had to be within a particular timeframe and 16 weeks would be too late. Do your notes give any details of appointments to expect? Mine has a flowchart for first time mothers and another for subsequent pregnancies

I'm gonna go through all my notes now because I agreed to the NT screening and thought that had to be done at or before 12 weeks x

That doesn't sound right at all. I'm on my second pregnancy and I had my usual scan at around12 weeks. It should be before 14 weeks

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 10/09/2019 13:26

Did she not mean your next appointment?

girlanonymous · 10/09/2019 14:00

She said when I'm 16 weeks I need to ring this lady who will be my midwife for a scan. I'm gonna wait 5 weeks until I'm actually 12 weeks and ask them when my 12 week scan is . Just checked notes there's no appointment made there for one. So I'm assuming it'll either be me calling them or they'll post a letter with details.

That’s strange, I’ve never heard of anyone having a scan at 16 weeks. Are you sure she didn’t mean the 16 week midwife appointment?

toadabode · 10/09/2019 14:55

I think you must have misheard - your scan will always be at 12 and 20 weeks regardless of how many children you already have. Perhaps she meant midwife appointment?

girlanonymous · 10/09/2019 15:07

Ok it makes a lot more sense if she meant the appointment. I'm certain I heard her say the word scan. But I was very tired and hungry at the appointment. I'll call my midwife up in 5 weeks and check when it is if I haven't gotten a letter by then xx

Sounds very odd to me, I've had scans at 12 and 20 weeks for both my pregnancies (first and second). I think it's also more likely she meant midwife appointment - if it's not the first baby, the MW appts are more spaced out than before, especially in the first two trimesters.
If you want the 12-week scan, make sure you get the appointment!

Crystal87 · 10/09/2019 17:38

Don't wait 5 weeks. There's sometimes a delay with appointments and there's no guarantee you'll get a scan appointment for a scan straight away. So I would ring them now and make sure that everything is correct.
