I had my usual check up with my MW today, I’m currently 38+5 and in the last two weeks baby hasn’t grown as they have expected her too so are sending me in for a growth scan in a couple of days. My whole pregnancy I’ve been measuring on the 30th percentile, so generally been a bit smaller. This is my first pregnancy and the midwife didn’t really reassure me, or explain why baby may not have grown as much. She just told me to look at it as a way of seeing baby again before she is here? Has anyone else experienced this, I came out of my appointment obviously very emotional and worried, although many people have tried to reassure me.

Yes I did. I measured 2 weeks behind and had to have a couple of growth scans in my first pregnancy. I did worry, but was reassured. All was well. You will be very well taken care of and if there any concerns with growth you will be monitored extra carefully. Take care.

I had a growth scan at 38 weeks. My healthy baby was born two weeks later weighing 6lbs 10oz. She's almost 5 now and has just started school. Try not to worry (easy to say, I know) It's great that your midwife is taking care of you and your baby. I really hope that everything goes well for you x

Try not to be too concerned. I measured under the 5th percentile at my 32 week appointment so was sent for a growth scan. Scan confirmed baby was on 50th percentile so the measurement clearly didn't correlate to baby size at all.

Hello! I’m 38 weeks 1 day and my boy has also been just below the average and smaller so I know how you feel! 2 weeks ago I had a growth scan and I have another growth scan tomorrow so will keep you updated. I’ve been asking people for their experiences and opinions of what happens next and it appears that if the consultant tomorrow feels he hasn’t grown very well in the last couple weeks sometimes they induce you a bit earlier or continue with regular scans until your due date. Smaller baby’s are common however and don’t necessarily mean somethings wrong! They will soon pile on the pounds once they start on that milk! 😘 keep me updated I’d like to hear how you get on seeming as we are due around the same time and have the same situation! Xxx

Thankyou everyone! Her movements and heartbeat are all perfectly fine, it was just a bit overwhelming and worrying, especially when it wasn’t really explained. I’m sure everything will be fine, it’s nice to hear others experiences too and everything I’ve read and heard doesn’t seem to be too worrying! I’ll let you all know how it goes in a couple of days! 😊x

I've had growth scans throughout my pregnancy and baby has always been between 25th and 35th centile.

Yesterday (37+1) baby had fallen below 10th centile (5lb6oz) and I was referred to ADU for some checks and to speak to the doctor.

Doctor basically said they'd be doing more scans, in weekly for check ups and I ideally won't go over 39 and definitely not over 40 weeks. All that would happen then is I'll be induced and monitored closely.

As long as baby is moving and has a good heartbeat and placenta is working well, they don't mind a small baby. Try to relax and enjoy the end of your pregnancy!

I had all my pregnancies in Holland and they don't do a growth scan after maximum 36 weeks as they are so unreliable. If your pregnancy has been well, all feels well and your intuition is telling you not to be worried then take ang measurements with a pinch of salt. Very difficult to give medical advice over the internet though and I am aware I may be off the mark. Sorry she has upset you so much. Try to get into a positive headspace for the last few weeks

Hi ShaunaKelsey. I had my 2nd consultant scan today & he was a little abrupt as he said he doesn’t really understand why i was referred again when last time my results were okay just a little smaller. He said he’s grown since scan so he’s not worried and especially now he’s classed as full term. He said himself measurements can never be exact as it’s like trying to measure baby in the dark. I’ve been told I won’t need any more now. Keep us updated ! I suppose all hospitals are different xxx

Hi Babycakes 1989, I’m glad it all went well today and you got some good results from your scan! A few people I have spoke to have said the hospitals usually wonder why people get sent in when it’s not needed, but I guess the midwives have to be a bit over cautious! I’m glad you’ve got some piece of mind! Mines tomorrow so I’ll keep you posted on what’s said! xx

Ok 😘please do! Yes it’s very confusing ! I have at the back of my mind been worrying since my last scan so I am a little relieved! Xx

ShaunaKelsey · 12/09/2019 15:42

So all was fine! The sonographer told me if anything that she is a big baby and on my notes has estimated her at 8lbs 8oz! So two very very different measurements 😂. But I’m very relieved she is all healthy and is now just a waiting game for her appearance! x
