Tiny mum tall dad = big baby??

Does the size of the parents influence the size of a newborn baby? I'm not pregnant atm but my partner and I really want a baby. However, I'm terrified that I'll have a big baby.

I'm 5'1" and underweight. My partner is 6'3" and borderline underweight. We're both naturally thin but our heights are very dramatically different.

What's your experience? Do the parents' weight play a part?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I don't think weight at birth correlates to the size you are as an adult. I think I did read that if you are having a girl the weight will be closer to your own birth weight & similarly for a boy/the dad.

And sons will be taller than their mums but not necessarily their dads.

I am 5'2. My husband is 6'4. One baby was 8.8 (12 days late) and the other was 8.10 (two weeks early).

Ease of birth is more about the baby's position than size.

I’m 5ft3, my husband is 6ft. Our DC was 8lb 12oz born at 38 weeks so they were big. Very long as opposed to particularly chubby!

I'm 5'3 and was a healthy weight with my first when I conceived. DH 5'11 and overweight. DS was 8lbs 10oz (I was 6lbs 3oz at birth and DH was 8lbs 6oz).

Pregnant again and was overweight when we conceived this time so kind of anticipating a bigger baby although measuring a bit smaller than I did with DS so who knows.

I think lots of factors contribute to a baby's weight and it's really the head circumference that matters in terms of getting them out, not how much they weight overall.

I think it's more to do with your birth weight and your partners birthweight. Big babies tend to have big babies themselves and so on. I was 7lb 12oz (I think) and OH was bang on 8lb and based on that my midwife said to expect a baby of around 8lb.

I'm 5ft 1 and my husband is 5ft. I was utterly huge . My first was 11lbs and second was 10lbs 10oz and that's with an elective at 39 weeks. No gestational diabetes. Had hyperemisis throughout and couldn't keep a thing down. Hospitalised many times throughout both for fluids and iron infusions. Just big babies. My girl is very slim and tall now, she's 6 but wears 8-9 9-10. My boy is 3 and a chunk.

Husband is 6ft, not 5ft.

I was a 5lb baby, my mum was a 5lb baby yet I had an 8.5lb baby, so no correlation of genetics for us. I’m 5’6, my partner 6’3.. I had Hyperemesis and lived off potato for the entire pregnancy so I don’t think food or nutrition has much to do with it either!

My daughter was average for everything until about one where she suddenly kept growing. She’s now taller than most of her peers! Guessing she’s going to take after Dad, she’s the spitting image of him & identical hair as well Smile

Birth weight is determined by the uterine environment, e.g. effectiveness of the placenta, etc.

Final weight is determined by genetics.

I am short, ExH is very tall, DCs were born on the 50% centile and shot up to the top curve.
