False negative?

DH and I are TTC #1, we're on Cycle 5 and AF was due 2x days ago and never came.

In previous 4 cycles AF arrived on time (sadly). My AF has always been regular as clockwork, literally can time it to the day at 27 days and has only ever been out of that a handful of times in my adult life (and only by 1 day max).

Did 2x hpt this morning (first wee), first annoyingly was defective as no control line appeared and second was a definite negative. I'm on my 3rd day overdue now and wondering if anyone in real life has ever had false negatives early on?

I will wait a few more days and if AF doesn't turn up I'll test again (and hope!) But need some reassurance that I might still have a chance this cycle (or if I dont!).

I had false negatives for weeks this time round. I ended up at the doctors I was so worried about my symptoms alongside negative tests. I'm just coming up to 18 weeks now but didn't get a positive until about 10.

Thank you @LunaLovesgood!

I've seen a few older threads where people have said the same thing - don't want to get my hopes up just in case but so out of the norm for AF to be late!

Unfortunately it's just a waiting game. My cycles were always regular, really regular. I'd never got over 27 days and I was at around 31 with nothing after about 8 months ttc.
I was panicking as had just been offered a new job and was trying to hold off accepting until I knew.
I got to 33 days before AF arrived so I'm afraid for me it wasn't the outcome I'd hoped for.
Felt like a kick in the teeth especially as we had caught 1st time with dd so although I had prepared for it not to be as easy, deep down you do hope it is.

Your body can play tricks on you and be a pain, but you just need to hold off testing for as long as you can and keep your fingers crossed.
It's a rough ride and luck of the draw. At 5 months you are still well within normal realms (even though it doesn't feel like it)

I'm now 37 weeks though after taking a break of about 3-4 months to start my new job and stop stressing about it and that time we caught 2nd month.

Hopefully it does end up as a positive for you but if not, remember that you may only be a month away from a different outcome.

Thank you so much for your message @Frizzy1968 Flowers

I'm sorry it was a tough ride for you when that happened but congrats on your pregnancy (and new job!)! I'm trying not to get my hopes up on this one and know in my head that it's still a 'normal' amount of time to take even if no bfp this cycle, but as you say it doesn't feel like it. Feels like a kick in the stomach every time AF arrives or when you look down at another bfn.

The difficult part is there seems to be no rhyme nor reason, it truly is out of our mortal hands and as much as we can do everything advised and go above and beyond with all the suggestions and lifestyle changes, it's still just a roll of the dice every month.
