Hi,

I’m 17 weeks pregnant and my bump isn’t too big yet. I have been sleeping with a pillow between my legs for the last few weeks but don’t currently sleep with a pillow supporting bump.

I just wanted to ask those who used pillows to support the bump, from what week did you feel like you needed one?

Also is there anyone out there who didn’t need a pillow to support the bump? Is it necessary (I.e. if you’re comfortable without one and don’t use one...can it cause any harm/damage to baby if you don’t use one)?

I tried putting a normal pillow under bump (like wedging it under bump) and sleeping on my side, but it felt uncomfortable because of the raised level. Might be because my bump isn’t that big yet... hence wondering when people felt the need to use one under bump.

I used one from about 27 weeks on my first pregnancy and not at all in second pregnancy, didn't feel as uncomfortable, wasn't as unfit and wasn't as swollen. Of course it doesn't do any damage to the baby if you don't use one, it's just a matter of your own comfort/not causing any painful injury to a joint or muscle etc that you don't need the added grief of.

I used one under my knees when sitting and between my knees when lying down because I suffered awful restless leg in my 3rd trimester and this helped!

I use one in between my legs quite early on say from 20 weeks from what I can remember
I’ve only in the last couple of weeks started to feel like I need one under bump at the side as it’s heavy now (currently 35 weeks)
Everyone is diff tho with diff bodies
I brought a huge 12foot one from Asda George in a sale and it’s awesome to wrap around me esp now as my hips are hurting at night so I’m tending to have a few hours sleeping upright

Didn’t feel the need to use one so I didn’t bother. My 2YO can testify that it’s not a requirement and that it won’t harm the baby not to stick a pillow under your bump (where on earth did you hear that?!). Do whatever makes you comfortable!

It won’t harm your baby not to have a pillow under your bump, it’s more for your comfort. In my first pregnancy I used a pillow between my legs but didn’t need it to support my bump until past 20 weeks.
I’m in my second pregnancy now and have a proper pregnancy pillow which I love but mostly because it gives me a bit of a cocooned feeling, I’m not yet using it to support my bump at 15 weeks as I really don’t have much of one.

Thanks everyone, I’ll play it by ear, certainly feels more comfortable sleeping without one under the bump at the moment, but that might change later on
