Bleeding at 8 weeks

I'm eight weeks today and had a scan at six weeks at EPU as I was spotting at three weeks. Everything was fine at the scan. I started bleeding/spotting on Thursday and woken up this morning to blood soaked through a pad and so much blood in toilet.

My EPU only opens on Monday and is there anything I can or should be doing today ? I was told by EPU if I do have heavy bleeding to go to A&E. Is this what most people or do or shall I wait for EPU ? I feel like crap and the idea of waiting at A&E for them to tell me to take paracetamol and come back tomorrow doesn't sound great.

Thank you, really wanting some advice.

When i was bleeding and losing clots i went to a&e, all they did was check my BP, ask how much i was bleeding and because it had died down i got told to go home and wait for a scan... if it was still loads they would have admitted me to check on things, realistically i don't think they'll scan you unfortunately! You may have to wait to phone EPU... hope you're okay! I bled a lot through this pregnancy and i'm currently 27 weeks x

I dont think they'll scan you but with the amount of blood you have said there is they should check if your cervix is open or closed x

Thanks so much. Like I suspected there was no one there to do a scan. The doctor did try and find my cervix to see if open/closed but couldn't find it... I'll go tomorrow for a scan and that will confirm for sure

good luck for tomorrow, hope all is okay and they can find an explanation for the bleeding. keep positive if you can 🤞 know that's easy to say but people do have bleeds and go on to be fine x

@baby1baby2 I hope everything is ok tomorrow. Bleeding can be caused by any number of things. Please try not to think the worst x

Thank you so much for the kind words but I've then bled so much all afternoon with dreadful stomach cramps. Ive never experience pain like it, agonising, and crying at the same time. I've also passed enormous clots in the toilet and just ran out. I'm beginning to think the doctor must have seen that my cervix was 'open' and could see it coming out. As it happened about 1.5 hours after I left the hospital. Sadly I think the baby has gone and the scan tomorrow will confirm this. My first miscarriage and god knows how people think about TTC after this experience.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, its all extremely frightening. If you’re still bleeding heavily overnight I’d consider going back to A&E (I’m a nurse so that would be my suggestion as you’re now passing clots and more blood). If you don’t feel you need A&E just make sure you keep hydrated and I know it sounds cliche but honestly a hot water bottle against your abdomen should help the pains.
Good luck tomorrow! I really hope everything works out for you. Take care xx
