Hi,
There was a thread on here before that had a link to a really helpful website that you could put your wage in, your maternity pay package, how long you were taking off and it calculated your pay per month. I've tried to find it but can't! Can anyone help?

@MaternityMoney NHS allows employees to spread payments equally over 9 or 12 months. Would be great to have tho option on the calculator if possible.

Yes agree my company allow me to spread payments. I've just added the take home pays from the maternity pay calculator and divided by 12 but would be great to have it worked out incase it changes tax etc.

We thought it was just the NHS that offered the spreading of payments over 12 months. It would be interesting to hear from anyone else whose employer gives this choice.

We're close to releasing an eligibility checker so couples can work out what maternity benefits they're entitled to including shared leave and pay. Do shout if there are other features you'd like to see.

Your website is brilliant! Agree the ability to spread the maternity pay would be really helpful particularly when my own payroll department won’t get back to me with an estimate, would be great to be able to figure it out for myself!

@MaternityMoney I Work for a housing association and my employer also allow you to spread the payments over 12 months and so does my local council

The website is fantastic! As a teacher, annual leave is calculated differently to other jobs so this skewed my results slightly. It would be great to have the option to check with this difference in annual leave.

@Pambo81, @littlemisscynical, @Alicealicewhothe - I don't suppose any of you have a contact for someone in payroll who does this? We aren't quite sure on a few of the finer points (like what happens if spreading it over 12mo means you get less than statutory maternity pay in month 1)

@MunchyMunchkin at the moment the calculator assumes that you have used up all your holiday accrued to date on the day you start your maternity leave (e.g. if you have 20 days holiday from 1st December to 31st December) and go on maternity on the middle day of the year then we assume you have used 10 days up before starting maternity. This means that it doesn't actually matter when your holiday year starts, because you start maternity with 0 days accrued. Maybe we should add an option to state how much you have accrued at the start of maternity? would that solve the problem?

@ShirleyPhallus - we are looking at Shared leave, it is quite complicated to figure out what the interface would need to look like and not become horribly complicated. But we will get there!

We aren't entirely sure how employers do this, so if your employer gives you an answer that looks completely different we'd love to know.

We are taking the total gross maternity pay you would have received over 52 weeks under your "normal" policy, then dividing that by 364 (52weeks * 7 days) and then applying that to each day you are on maternity leave, thereby smoothing it .

This means:
-The amount you get varies slightly each month because there are a different number of days each month.
-If you cut your maternity leave short of 52 weeks, you get pretty heavily penalised because you just miss out on that proportion of maternity pay.
-We are ignoring the fact that this might result (depending on your OMP policy) in you getting less than statutory maternity pay in the first 6 weeks - again, not quite sure how employers deal with this if that happens.

I must say it is worth looking at the impact of this. There are certainly some scenarios where spreading it evenly could actually be quite beneficial in reducing your national insurance bill. so long as you are absolutely positive you are going to take the full 52weeks leave

@MaternityMoney another teacher here. Our annual leave is already subtracted - we are not paid for holidays (despite what some people think 😉) so including annual leave in the calculation means the calculator doesn't work for us.

Please can you add the option to remove the annual leave, so teachers get an accurate reading? X

Hello. Great calculator! I was trying to work this out on paper which was headache inducing. Love that it sorts tax too.

Yes agree with remove annual leave for teachers. Also I would need one more stage to put my maternity pay in e.g. I get 100% pay for 4 weeks, 90% pay for the next 2 weeks, 50% + smp for the next 12 weeks and then the next 21 weeks are SMP. Thanks!

We'll add another option to not accrue holiday at all.
For now, you can see the calculation without any holiday taken into account by selecting use holiday "for holidays", which effectively just keeps them accrued and doesn't use them. The wording will say you have accrued holiday, but it won't affect the calculation.

Hi All,

For all you teachers out there, you can now do a calculation without accruing holiday

And for those with really complicated maternity pay schemes you can now add (or remove) another occupational maternity pay stage

If there is anything else we can do to make the calculator easier to use or cater for other situations then please do let me know.

Other things we have thought about:
-Maternity Allowance projection
-Shared Parental Leave projection (bigger job)
-Save your pay projection/email it to yourself
-Show a total of maternity pay, or total shortfall vs normal pay
-Set your average weekly earnings or tax code.

@MaternityMoney I just tried it out and it's great to see what I'll get each month! The only confusing bit is still having to put in that I accrue 20 days holiday before ticking a box to say that I don't accrue holiday?
It would be really good to be able to e-mail it to yourself.
