Hot baths - how hot is too hot?

I had no idea until recently that you’re not meant to take hot baths while pregnant. When I run a bath it’s definitely very warm, although I can get straight in as opposed to submerging myself bit by bit, and my skin doesn’t get red. I also stay in the bath for less than 10 minutes.

Does that sound ok or should bathwater really only be lukewarm (to the point where you’re chilly when you get out?)

I love a bath in the evenings to wind down after work - especially now I can’t have my glass of wine! It’s such a treat as the weather gets colder as well.

Do you have a thermometer, OP?
Some websites say water temperature to not be more than 37°C, others say 40°C is fine as long as you don't stay more than 20 min in.
In the end of the day is all about how hot your body temperature gets up to. I don't know if it will work or be accurate but maybe take your temperature when in the bath to see if you are within normal limits.

It’s fine. You have to raise your core body temp for a long time for there to be any risk. I presume you are not completely submerged in the water either. I had short saunas and used to lie in the jacuzzi with my bump sticking out.

Also you tend to be more sensitive to heat in pregnancy. If you were dangerously warm, you’d probably have become uncomfortable before that point and got out. It’s like they think your brain falls out the moment you’re pregnant. Enjoy your baths.

Thanks all. I am completely submerged (well, apart from my head!) as I don’t have a bump yet. But that’s reassuring Solihooley, thank you
