I am currently in my 16th or 17th week of pregnancy.
My hubby is concerned that I am too fat already.
I know the baby is growing. But my obgyn also was concerned why I am having so big tummy already as my baby is not so big yet.
Currently weight is 56 kilos.
Height is 5'3" approx

Tummy too big for 16/17 weeks ?

I'd go with medical advice, but at 5'3 you're going to have less torso for the growth to spread out in than someone taller than you (I'm 5'8 and didn't really start sticking out until about 26/27 weeks - though also have pretty strong abs to hold it all in) so you will probably tend to grow outwards more.

I can't guess your dress size but your bump looks normal id say. Wht was your pre pregnant weight?

Em39ma · 06/09/2019 19:24

I was huge by then. Was getting people saying to wow not long left and at my 12 week scan, even the midwife asked if I was actually there for my 20 week scan
I was much bigger than you at 18 weeks when I got married.
Very one is different. Bump size doesn’t always mean big baby.
I’m now 34 weeks and my bump is measuring off the scale, I get extra scan because of it. But my little lady is still on the 50th percentile, so not overly big.
I’m 5:6 and size 14/16 but I couldn’t hide my pregnancy after 8 weeks.

Every not very 🤦‍♀️

Redken24 · 06/09/2019 19:25

Sorry I missed that in your post you look fine. We are the same height and I was heavier than you when I got pregnant both times. Are you measuring big?

sarahhoping · 06/09/2019 20:24

What does measuring big mean

I'm about the same as you, I'm 5ft 4 and 28, first pregnancy, I'm 23 weeks but my bump is tiny. Honestly you can't win! Try not to let the size of you bump worry you, midwife will start measuring it at about 28 weeks and if they're concerned they'll send you for another scan. You've still got your 20 week scan to go though and hopefully baby is growing perfectly. Please don't let bump size bother you, they're all different Thanks

DaisyMay25 · 06/09/2019 20:29

Also 56kg is not big!!! I was 59 at booking and bmi is spot on, you're a tiny bit smaller than me so I have zero idea why they're concerned for your weight, you shouldn't be!

Redken24 · 06/09/2019 20:47

Here they do fundal height? Nyways I was 66kg on first midwife appt nd 83kg when I gave birth.

TooMinty · 06/09/2019 20:52

What's 56 kilos in stone? #oldschool

I agree with PP though - if you are short in stature then bump sticks out further. I'm 5ft and my neighbour asked me if I was sure I wasn't having twins...

iMatter · 06/09/2019 20:52

I think everyone is different.

My bump didn't pop out until I was 22 weeks after my scan and even then it was tiny.

Em39ma · 06/09/2019 20:55

After 26 weeks they measure your bump from pelvic bone to the top of you uterus. On average should measure the same as weeks.
Mine is now measuring 46cm and should be around 34/36.

crustycrab · 06/09/2019 21:27

Don't worry. You are fine. Everyone and every pregnancy is different and no, you look the same as I did.

My second they told me he was big and around 8lb at 34 weeks and that worried me.

He was 6lb 13 when he was born at 40 weeks and was absolutely fine.

Bol87 · 06/09/2019 21:44

Well for one, you don’t look fat or overweight.. and two, bump looks fine. I looked very similar around 20 weeks with my first but I’m 5.7, so quite a bit taller. My shorter friends have always had quite big, all out front bumps, I guess there’s just less body space other than outwards!

ShopoholicIn · 07/09/2019 06:03

Hi op,
I am 18 weeks with my second pregnancy and my bump is bigger than yours. I am 5'9" by the way.

mintich · 07/09/2019 06:32

My bumps were like that. I'm 5'3" but I have long legs and a tiny torso so the only way for each of the babies to go is out!!

There can be medical reasons for large bumps, such as lots of fluid, which will be the things your consultant will want to monitor/exclude as a cause.

If they are not present, then your husband can fuck right off. It's not his area of expertise to comment upon your size - once any conditions are excluded, bumps come in big, small, tucked in, sticking out and going sideways.

I had one bump that was invisible until about 28 weeks (didn't even know I was pregnant for 17 weeks) and then went out at the sides, so I thickened before looking obviously pregnant rather than just solid from 34. The second, it was all out front from the start, so I was huge. Huge baby, too (never have kids with somebody nearly 2m tall if you're little is my recommendation).

Listen to your consultant - ignore your husband.
