Labour being induced as small baby!

Hi, just been given my induction date at 37 weeks for this Saturday and I’m absolutely terrified as had a crap experience the first time around 9 years ago. I suffered a massive pph 2 days after delivery luckily I was still in hosp at the time but it took me a long time to recover both mentally and physically and I had the support of my loving dad to help me, my dad passed in January just before I found out this little one was due and I guess I’m struggling to deal with everything right now on top of my own fears about after the birth

I'm sorry I have no advice as in 20 weeks for baby #1.

Congratulations on baby, and sorry about your dad Sad

They do say when one life ends another one is born. But I'm sure your little one will hear wonderful stories of him. He may not be here but they will love him regardless.

Good luck with your induction, have you tried hypnobirthing? I've heard fab things I think I'm going to give it a go! Every little helps GrinFlowers

Oh OP that's hard! Grieving while pregnant, especially for a parent, is so tough!
Having had the PPH last time your team will be able to do things to prevent it this time, so history is unlikely to repeat itself.
Re induction, I had a really swift, easy one, that wasn't especially painful. There are plenty of "good" induction births out there, but you do tend to hear the horror stories more.
It sounds like you know to give yourself some slack. Let your MWs know you are grieving. It's ok to feel all churned up.

I was induced for the same reasons as you at 37+4. Induction was fine 2 pessarys 6 hours apart but nothing really happens until , my waters were broken she was born 2 hours later. It was fast and furious but quick. Unfortunately I had a retained placenta but I don't think thats got anything to do with being induced?!

Katieh89 · 02/09/2019 23:49

Thank you for all the reply’s things are just getting more real now I suppose, I know deep down I’ll be fine just my mind is going into overdrive with everything! 20viona that’s what caused my first pph sooo scared history will repeat

No advice. But I'm looking at delivering early if my baby doesnt grow some! How much does your baby weigh for them to induce you at 37 weeks?...Good luck!My freind had an induction & was really smooth she said...X

Hollywhiskey · 16/09/2019 08:07

I was induced with my first. As others said out was ready straightforward but I did have a slight bleed (2l). Once you've had one bleed there is an increased risk of having another. Your consultant should put in a plan for this - I had my second two weeks ago and I had managed third stage, a stronger drug for the third stage and a syntocinon drip after the placenta was out. It was fine and I lost 150ml only. Good luck x

20viona · 16/09/2019 08:11

@Cantthinkofanameeee i was recently induced at 37 weeks due to small baby and she weighed 5lb 3oz if this helps.

Cantthinkofanameeee · 16/09/2019 10:00

@20viona thankyou for reply...My 32 week growth scan (I was 31+5 at the time of the scan) showed I was measuring more 30 weeks...3lb 4oz...I have a repeat scan tomorrow to see how much shes grown.Very anxious...Do you know what your were measuring around the 32 week mark?

maternityleave234 · 16/09/2019 10:10

I had growth scans throughout my pregnancy and was due to be induced at 38 weeks as she was measuring small. I went into labour at 37+4 and she was 5ll11, 6th centile. I was only going to be induced as her growth slowed down and she dropped from the 10th to the 6th towards the end.

I had a sweep on the Tuesday am and went to labour the same day however I had stopped progesterone pessaries the previous week to prevent pre term labour.

Induction really does depend on whether the body is ready, it can be quite a drawn out process if the body isn’t.

@Cantthinkofanameeee what centile is baby on at the moment?

Cantthinkofanameeee · 16/09/2019 10:54

Thanks for that info @maternityleave234 do you know what you were measuring at 32 weeks? No idea what centile I'm on.Il post a pic of where I am on the grow chart...I'm not on the lines at all though...

Cantthinkofanameeee · 16/09/2019 11:01

That's where I was at 31+5 day scan...I'm 33+4 today...Due a scan tomorrow to see how much she has grown...They said if theres no growth they will look to deliver. If theres little growth they will try to get me to 36 weeks with monitoring.(Scans & placenta dopplers) Placenta has been working fine so far.If she does the miraculous and jumps up onto the lines.Il be booked in for my csection at 38 weeks.Im having an elective csection regardless.Due to previous problems delivering my first baby...So I'm up in arms as to where I'm going with this baby until tomorrow :( Its been a long 2 week wait...

20viona · 16/09/2019 11:02

@Cantthinkofanameeee I think I was on the 4th centile. It went up and down from 9-2 but never over 10 from 28 weeks so that's why I was induced. My Induction was positive too, 2 pessarys 6 hours apart then they broke my waters at 9.30pm I was 3cm and she was born at 11.50pm.

Cantthinkofanameeee · 16/09/2019 11:22

Thanks @20viona was your baby ok at birth?...Or did they have to stay in...Can you see what centile I am on from my picture? It only shows the 3 lines on my chart...

20viona · 16/09/2019 12:38

@Cantthinkofanameeee she was absolutely fine. I had a retained placenta which involved a trip to theatre so we stayed in 2 days but I don't think that was due to induction. She's now 10 weeks old and about 8lb and only on 0.4th centile - health visitor isn't concerned and just wanted a reweigh in 4 weeks.

maternityleave234 · 16/09/2019 12:46

We were about 150grams more from looking back at my photos from my scans so not a huge amount more at all when you think they are so little. Good luck for tomorrow, I always felt throughout pregnancy really well looked after, as was consultant lead from the off set. Mine was just a small baby as dopplers for cord and placenta were all fine. My first was smaller though so I had growth scans from 26 weeks as he was dull term and 6lb 2.

My DD is three weeks now and just over 6lbs so do well.

@20viona I had a retained placenta too! Have to say the most brutal thing I’ve been through, mine was fully retained and my cervix closed. Horrible!

maternityleave234 · 16/09/2019 12:47

As the bottom line is the 10th I’d guess around the 2nd percentile?

20viona · 16/09/2019 13:02

@maternityleave234 it really was the most horrendous experience until I demanded an epidural, being rummaged around inside with only gas and air was not pleasant.

Cantthinkofanameeee · 16/09/2019 13:03

Thankyou @maternityleave123 in glad your babies were all fine and it went ok for you in the end...X

maternityleave234 · 17/09/2019 12:25

How was your scan @Cantthinkofanameeee?

Cantthinkofanameeee · 17/09/2019 16:08

Scan went great @maternityleave234 thanks for asking...Shes gained 1b 1oz in this 2 weeks...and gone onto the 10th percentile line! They are happy with that and I'm booked in for c section at 39 weeks as planned...so relieved.Just knowing shes in there and weighing at 4lb 5oz has just taken so much fear away of giving birth to a small fragile 3lb baby...Feel like I can relax now knowing shes growing x

maternityleave234 · 17/09/2019 16:16

That’s excellent news! I bet you are so relieved!! It was always so nerve racking at the scans- I remember my consultant giving me a fit to work but on reduced hours and from home - and basically said I had to rest to stop pre term labour at 32 weeks, and then emphasising she was small as well! Those few weeks were so nerve wracking!

Will you have more growth scans just to keep an eye on things?

Cantthinkofanameeee · 17/09/2019 16:40

I know so relieved and yeah my last consulatant appointment at 32 weeks was like all guns blazing.Scary possibilities...this was a different consultant and he was literally like nope if you feel fine...I'm happy with what I see...Il book you in for 39 weeks.I asked if the growth will be monitored from now & he said no?I did wonder if he was being slap dash?...But my mum was there & was like no.Hes clearly happy. So just be happy...Which I guess is true...X
