Heart burn making me so miserable :(

I'm 35 weeks today, was really sick on Saturday (wanting to vomit acid) because of heart burn, like an acid feeling in my throat. It was so bad I couldn't lie down and slept on and off sitting up

Even last night, nothing would relieve it I had anti acids and gaviscon and nothing would take the edge off it, ended up getting 2 hours sleep.

I'm in work now, scared to eat because of the nausea, feeling very weak. I thought it was ease by now because baby's down low.

Anyone have any ideas how to relieve it? Feeling very upset and uncomfortable 😣

You poor thing. Have you got anything on prescription? I'm a week behind you and have had terrible acid since early on. Prescribed daily omeprazole has really helped.

melissa1215 · 02/09/2019 09:46

@princesstinnedpeach I haven't got anything on prescription yet but definitely will be asking the doctor because this is unreal! I thought it'd ease towards the the end but it seems to be getting worse

It might not work but I find that drinking a glass of milk really helps relieve it!

Please google "epigastric pain" and make sure it isn't that.

If it is, call midwife ASAP

When I was pregnant first time the only thing which helped was Gaviscon. Second time it didn't touch it, I ended up on Ranitidine tablets prescribed by GP. You can buy them OTC but please get seen by your GP first as mine checked my liver was okay before she would prescribe.

You have my every sympathy OP, my DS is 4 weeks old today and this is the main reason I don't think I'd ever consider a third child as it made me so miserable when pregnant Thanks

Blafff · 02/09/2019 10:53

Ranitidine made all the difference to me. I was swigging gaviscon from the bottle but it really calmed it down. It is really unpleasant Flowers

OP, I feel your pain. I am only 22 weeks pregnant and have been suffering with heartburn on/off since around 18 weeks. It really does make you miserable!

I have been able to manage mine thankfully by drinking cold milk (even though they say that this makes it worse... it seems to help me!) and drinking plenty of water before and after each meal. I occasionally have to have a couple of Rennies but try not to as the taste/texture of them make me feel so ill!

I think If mine gets worse (which I am expecting it to right up until I give birth), i'll see a GP and get something prescribed!

Hope you don't have to suffer for much longer.

As my pregnancy progressed I found the heartburn got worse and OTC remedies less and less effective. I was prescribed Omeprazole which worked wonders!

Dandelion1993 · 02/09/2019 11:12

I found calpol helped mine!

GoldPaperStars · 02/09/2019 11:13

I would definitely ask your GP for help. I was just getting over the worst of HG when the heartburn and reflux started at about 19 weeks. I couldn’t sleep because every time I would nod off I’d be woken by almost being sick in my mouth. It was so grim.

A daily dose of omeprazole and I’m completely ok!

Bluebell9 · 02/09/2019 11:17

I'm the same as you OP. I didn't get much sleep at all last night due to acid reflux. I'm waiting for the doctor to ring me back and I'm hoping she can help as rennie aren't helping anymore. I'm only 32 weeks, I hope the next 8 weeks goes quickly!

Tableclothing · 02/09/2019 11:21

Omeprazole

melissa1215 · 02/09/2019 11:47

Definitely will be asking about omeprazole, sounds like a life saver!!!

Omeprazole had been a game changer for me too

Starlight84 · 02/09/2019 19:34

I’ve been prescribed ranitidine but I’m still suffering quite bad. I am going to finish the course and then go back and ask about omeprazole. I can wake in the night choking on acid and then my throat is so so sore. Heartburn is just so awful. I can completely sympathise with you xx

anonnancy · 04/09/2019 08:33

Just want to pop on and say that I had heartburn ALL NIGHT last night!!! Was up from 2:30 am, downstairs raiding the cupboard for the Rennies. I finally managed to drift off again at about 4:30, but that 2 hours broken sleep with horrendous burning in my chest/throat has made me feel so drained today. I'm running late for work because I just can't get going! Still have a bit of the heartburn lingering too! think my GP will be getting a visit from me soon for some medication to help! X

ReadytoPop6 · 04/09/2019 08:57

I had this as well, I went to the docs and asked for omeprazole as a friend had it and said it worked wonders. My doc prescribed me Ranitidine, saying it had been around longer and she was more comfortable with prescribing this. It has helped massively but i do notice the heartburn creeps back if I forgot to take it (twice a day)

Good luck. Definitely get yourself to the doctors as there is help out there!

The only silver lining was that the heartburn stopped me over eating and eating junk! So I haven’t gained too much weight whilst being pregnant Grin

BarberellaWife · 04/09/2019 13:16

I'm also on omeprazole and it has help massively. I still need the occasional rennie to top me up when its bad at night but that's rare and it goes quickly!

mistermagpie · 04/09/2019 13:56

Omeprazole is a game changer, I was on ranitidine in my last pregnancy and that was good but this is even better. I honestly believe the people who say a glass of milk helps have no idea what real chronic heartburn is like.
