Retaining urine

Sorry if this is a strange one, or TMI
I’m currently 14+3 and recently have been noticing an increased frequency of needing to wee (and am also trying to drink more anyway) but that I will feel like I’ve fully emptied my bladder, then a few mins later I need a wee again and it’s like I’ve basically retained some urine but not a “proper” one if that makes sense?

It’s not a UTI as I have had those before and have no burning or discomfort with this, it’s just irritaint that it’s not all coming out the first time around!

Has anyone else experienced this? I will be chatting to my midwife about it at my appt this month x

I’ve had this all the way through! It’s worse at night before I go to bed for some reason - takes me about 4 tries to get to an empty bladder. Has got worse as time has gone on. I used to get awful UTIs before pregnancy so was concerned it was something to do with that but my urine samples have all tested clear at my checkups. Midwife thinks it is baby resting on my bladder which tallies with it getting worse in 3rd trimester.

I think I'm correct in saying that this can be very normal in pregnancy. I was told that your bladder rarely empties completely in pregnancy, which is why there is often an increased risk of UTIs and why it's important to drink lots of water to keep flushing it through.
That doesnt help and I feel your struggle. I can go to the loo, feel fine, then lie down and instantly need to go again which I presume is just different position / baby pressure on my bladder! You're not alone x

Try cutting out caffeine completely. A well known bladder irritant apparently.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. Good to know I’m not the only one! @originaldomesticgodess luckily I don’t actually drink any caffeine because i imagine that would make it even worse!

My midwife gave me a trick for this which has been a godsend! After you've wee'd sit on the loo a bit longer and rock back and forward .. Helps get the last bit of wee out!

@Inthesky42 thank you I’ll give it a go, probably look completely nuts but if it works I’m down! Grin

I second the rocking backward and forward a bit to get the last of it out. Worked for me! 😊
