Pregnancy of Unknown Location?

Hi everyone, by LMP I should be 7 weeks pregnant today. Although I ovulate late and have quite long cycles (up to 36 days) so could be earlier.

I went into EPU on Friday after about 3 days of bleeding, like a constant light period. They did a scan (external and internal) the sonographer said she saw some cysts on my ovaries, and what could be a sac (she asked if I could be more like 5 weeks) but she wouldn't like to say and asked me to come back in a fortnight to be rescanned. I don't know if it's worth mentioning my bladder was nowhere near full.

However when the doctor discussed results, he said nothing could be seen and it was a PUL, and kept saying sorry as if it were all over. I had bloods done and going back today for more to check levels, but I was just wondering if anybody had any experience of this? I've been googling frantically (naturally) and haven't been able to find any success stories after a PUL.

I think your long cycles mean you are prob closer to just coming up to 6 weeks rather than 7. Nothing can be seen until about 6 weeks on a scan and until they can confirm they have seen the sac in the womb where it should be then they have to state unknown location. I think when you go back all will be fine but do keep an eye out for any pain at all in your abdomen or any shooting pains up your bum. Go straight to a&e if you notice those. 🤞🏻 And good luck for your next scan x

P.s your bloods should double every 24hrs/ that will be a very good sign too. If you are a week behind your dates due to later ovulation they might be concerned that HCG in your blood is low too but don’t worry about the actual number just the doubling is all that matters

48hrs it should double in not 24 - sorry

I had a PUL, in my case they never actually did find it, but two weeks after the bleeding started I got a lot of pain. In my case they think it was in the tube and I fortunately managed to pass it myself without the tube rupturing.
My levels didn’t increase either, so if you get a result where yours are then it makes more likely you just have the wrong dates and you did ovulate later.
Good luck.
So you know, this happened in October last year, I fell again in January this year and I now sat here with a very large and uncomfortable bump at 33 weeks pregnant.

I got a positive test June 2017, saw midwife early on as we were unsure of how pregnant I was (crazy cycle). A few weeks later (maybe 2, I'm hazy) I then had bleeding so went to epu after midwife rang ahead. They did external & internal scans & found nothing and apologised. I was really upset & confused. I had to keep going back for repeat bloods & these were confusing as they didn't reduce as expected. I ended up being signed off work for 2 weeks as I was a mess & the daily/every other day hospital visits were difficult.
What I found difficult was the mixed messages. My GP said "oh it's still early days, baby is probably just not visible yet" the use of 'baby' really sent me over the edge. Hospital weren't clear about bloods, I was never sure if there was hope or not. In the end if was ruled a miscarriage not PUL but I never really understood why or the difference.
My advice would be, to ask them to be very clear & explain everything to you. I too did the made googling & convince myself at one point that I'd been pregnant with twins & lost one but the other was fine.
Later that year I was pregnant again & have a very lively 1yo.
Hope you are doing ok, take care of you!
