Ok people - should we get a tandem or a side by side double buggy?

Bub No2 is due in November when DS will be 2 and 2mths. I don't really use his current buggy masses - usually travel by car. The most we use it for is about an hour or so when we have to go into town. DS will walk, but only for a bit before it's "Cuggle, cuggle", meaning "I'm tired of walking now, can you carry me" - this is when he goes back in the buggy! Anyway, question is, what kind of double buggy should we get? Pros and cons of tandem or side by side please. We have about 150 max to spend...

You can get umbrella fold side by side which are better for car.

isaidno - love your name! Aren't double buggies a bit wide and unwieldy?

What about a buggy board? That is what I am planning to get. We will have the same age gap as you - DD will be 2.3 when new baby comes in Dec. She doesn't really like to go in her buggy now and prefers to walk but does ask to be carried after a while....

get a marco sky - i love it, i have 21 months between youngest two and I still use it - youngest baby is now 18 months (sob), cost about £120 brand new from ebay (iirc).

I have had side by side and other tandems but definitely for me marco has been best.

It does say from 3 months but i used it from birth, I put in a sheepskin to make her comfier.

Have I sold it to you yet?

Years and years ago i had a side by side when i looked after my niece as well as my DS. They have a 10 week age difference between them. Anyway, the side by side was a complete PITA for getting in shops, and even walking on paths and trying to get past a lamp post!!!

I really wished i'd gone for a tandem as i HATED taking the kids out in the double buggy.

So i would strongly recommend either a buggy board or a tandem!

I am going to just carry on using my McClaren for DS who will be 22 months when LO arrives and use my sling for LO and just see how I go. I am not going to buy another buggy until I am sure I defo need it. DS does like walking altho of course he does get tired and need his buggy. I am just trying to avoid extra expense and the though of pushing either a tandem or double around fills me with dread.

Oh will be getting a buggy board too.

side by sides can be awkward for some doors, but tandem are difficult on steps, kerbs etc.

Actually i had a buggy board mostly, but needed some kind of pushchair because DS1 was still napping occasionally. Beware tandems which only have a little front seat - no good for sleeping!

These are interesting points... Think what I may do is just wait and see as I really don't want to have to push a double buggy around! DS never really sleeps in his now anyway! Hopefully I can get away with LO in sling and DS in his buggy and then when LO is old enough to go in the buggy then DS can just use buggy board...

Bub No 2 is due in Jan when DD will b 26 mths. I have a local baby equipment loan service run by Surestart - It's not just for parents on low income - any1 can use it! Will be hiring a double buggy for 6 mths. COST: aN AMAZING £20 in total!

Claire33- that is such a good idea.
