Is milk of magnesia safe to take?

I'm 18 weeks and I am having some slight discomfort due to constipation. It's not bad enough to go to the GP so I was hoping I could get something over the counter to relieve it.

Any help or advice is appreciated x

If you have concerns you should speak to a pharmacist.

There’s no evidence to suggest if it’s safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding, therefore I’d go with lactulose as this is considered safe during pregnancy.

I second lactulose-available from pharmacist and definitely ok in pregnancy. I’m now taking it fairly often (37+6) No to milk of magnesia.

Also if you’re taking iron tablets they can cause constipation, so you need to make sure you’re drinking plenty of fluids and try to eat healthily and increase your fibre and fruit intake if you can. If you can tolerate or like prunes they can help, also take your iron tablets with orange juice as it helps to absorb them better.
