Hi everyone. I found out on 15th August that I was pregnant. We were so, so happy as this came after 2 years of TTC.

On sunday, I experienced some brown discharge. Although worrying, I tried to rationalise thinking - old blood. I also had the same brown spotting all through first trimester of my pregnancy with DS. On Monday same again.

Yesterday after a BM I had a tissue full of watery red blood. But after that it stopped immediately and had no more bleeding.

Today after a BM same again - however the watery red blood hasn't stopped.

I also just did a CB digital and the weeks still say 1-2, which is the same result I got on 16th August. By LMP I am 6+3.

I think I know I am losing this baby. I suppose I am looking for words of encouragement or what I should do next. I am heartbroken.

Hi @Tisfortired, I'm so sorry you are going through this. I would like to offer you some words of encouragement but, I also don't want to get your hopes up in fear of the worst.

When I suffered a mc in November, I had constant bleeding which was that of a heavy period and so, it may not be as you think!? I also tested positive on a FRER and a CB digital and then on the morning I woke up bleeding I tested negative on both.

As I said, I don't want to get your hopes up because, my SIL took a test and found out that she was 9 weeks pg. When she went for her 12 week scan she only seemed to be a few weeks along so, they asked her to go back a week later and sadly, there was no change or heartbeat.

Please don't take either of those stories as gospel or let them spook you. Everyone's body is different and no pregnancy is the same. I am currently 35 weeks pg and when I was 10 weeks I had a bleed (about an eggcup full). I was checked over and everything was completely fine and the midwife told me 'Some women can bleed occasionally throughout pregnancy, some women have no bleeding at all and some women bleed from start to finish with no explanation. All of which can have perfectly healthy babies'

I would recommend you call your GP and get an appointment as soon as possible. You may not be able to go for a scan at the hospital but, I paid for an early scan at a private place (about £80) when I was 6 weeks, to curb my paranoia.

Good luck and keep your chin up. Will be thinking of you Flowers xx

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me @frsttimemama . I've given myself a headache with the worry. I know some people have positive outcomes and some people don't and none of that can change my outcome. I'm just so sad.

I finally (after 15 attempts!) got through to the community midwife who said that as I'm below 16 weeks she advises I go to A&E? I feel like I'd be wasting A&E time doing that. I don't know. I've left work early and going home to have a lie down.

@Tisfortired, I wouldn't go to A&E if it were me to be honest. Have you tried your GP?

The sticker on my pg notes says;

  • If urgent pre 20 weeks call GP
  • If urgent after 20 weeks ring triage

When it happened to me, I spoke to GP and they made me an appointment for a reassurance scan at the hospital within the hour.

Please try not to worry. You don't want to make yourself unwell Sad

Chin up xx

Hi @Tisfortired hope you're ok.

I'll offer my experience of mc. I didn't bleed heavily at all I had no pain even drs didn't believe I was miscarrying because the bleeding was only when I wiped. I only say this because most stories of miscarriage are heavy painful bleeding.

Speak to your GP for advice and reassurance.

@Tisfortired do you live near an early pregnancy unit? Lots have drop in clinics where you can sit and wait to be seen. I'm 5 weeks and have had lots of bleeding so turned up to one yesterday and they did a scan and some bloods. Hard to say 100% anything from one scan but everything looked as they expect and they will re scan in 2 weeks to check for growth etc so don't lose hope xxx

hi OP I'm so sorry you're going through this, I know how stressful and upsetting it is to see blood when you're pregnant.

Your MW may have told you to go to A&E because that's the quickest way to get referred to EPU - this is what I was told at my local hospital. The EPU there is small and they prefer you to get a referral rather than just turning up. It can be difficult to get GP appointments quickly in my area so going through A&E to be referred to EPU is easiest for everyone. I had to do this just the other night, went to A&E with sudden heavy bleeding at 2am, saw a doctor within 2 hours and had a scan at EPU just after 9am (everything was fine).

If you have a local EPU with a walk-in clinic that would be a great option but don't feel guilty about going to A&E if that's the best way to get help. A&E triage is usually very efficient and they should be able to work out quickly where to refer you. Especially if you go at a time that's usually less crazy eg this afternoon or tomorrow daytime NOT friday night! Best of luck xx
