Baby bump

I’m 11 weeks pregnant and really showing... everything I’m reading online is saying that first timers don’t usual show till around 4-5 months in. Does this mean I’m going to have a bigger baby or anything along them lines? I’m only small and slim, so again don’t know if that’s got anything to do with it but I’m also diabetic and we’re prone to having big babies I’m told!... so is this normal ConfusedConfused

It's more than likely bloat. Your uterus hasn't yet emerged from behind your pelvic bones.

ChikiTIKI · 27/08/2019 20:15

Any chance of twins?

M0reGinPlease · 27/08/2019 20:34

Bloating. Your baby has only reached the size of a strawberry at this point.

Britt1234 · 28/08/2019 05:40

No chance of twins I’ve had an early scan. Do you think it’s bloating then? How can you tell the difference.. it’s sticking out 24/7 now, not so much in the morning but after I’ve had my first meal and by evening... I’m struggling to hide it, just till after 12 weeks

When I was 12 weeks I thought I was really showing. But then I was in my normal (but stretchy) jeans until 21 weeks. Now that I have got to 26 I understand what “showing” means...

MindyStClaire · 28/08/2019 07:00

Yeah it'll just be bloat. When you prod it, is it squishy like your tummy usually is, or is it hard and kinda bouncy like a beach ball?

I'm 9 weeks on number two and I do look a bit pregnant, the bloat is unreal this time. But it's not a bump just yet, it doesn't have that solid feel.

Plus, all babies are pretty much the same size at this point, it's only later they're different sizes. I didn't really show until about 20 weeks the first time I think, maybe a bit earlier. But I did get enormous (as the surgeons kindly remarked as they started my c section) and had a 9lb 7oz baby.

This happened to me as well! This was my belly at 12 weeks. Compared to now (22 weeks) it looks smaller and less rounded but it was definitely showing! I don't think it was bloat because it was very consistent but it probably wasn't uterus/baby at this stage, more likely just fat being pushed up and out.

For me I think I showed early because my torso is really short so there was literally nowhere for my visceral fat/organs to go except outwards. My baby was the expected size for gestation, and at that early stage they're pretty uniform anyway so how early you show probably wouldn't correlate with how big they end up at birth.

Oh I meant to add, I showed really early but now at 22 weeks I look pretty similar to lots of the other ladies in my antenatal group so you won't necessarily always look further along.

Em39ma · 28/08/2019 08:30

I have shown this 8 weeks, my first not bloat. The doctor said wow when I walked in for my 12 weeks scan and told me some people do just show, not often but does happen.
I’m now 32 weeks, have been measuring full term since 26 weeks.
Everyone is different and in my case runs in the family. My mum and nan were the same.

CarolineKate · 28/08/2019 09:22

This is me at 14 weeks! It was probably bloat. But it never went away just kept getting bigger! Second picture is the day before giving birth. I had an 8lb 15oz baby 😊. Also the last picture is 4 days pregnant (didn't know lol 🤣) so you can see I had a small frame to start!

RealMermaid · 28/08/2019 09:37

I was showing by 11 weeks - probably partly bloat but definitely not all, it didn't feel like a bloated tummy and didn't follow gravity! I'm naturally quite a small build so I think there just isn't much space in there - even though the foetus is very small at that stage, the actual uterus is the size of a grapefruit by then, so it does push things around!
I would say though that what felt like "showing" to me and my partner (none of my trousers fit any more!) did not necessarily look like showing to other people especially those that didn't know me well already

I'm now 18 weeks and quite noticeably showing for the past 2 weeks lol, everyone at work who didn't already know has worked it out :)

melissa1215 · 28/08/2019 12:19

It could just be bloat, I had to start wearing dresses and loose fitting jeggings around then. I thought I was showing too but that didn't happen till around 24 weeks (at least not properly, I had a little tiny belly before then but it was rounded)

Marty93 · 28/08/2019 14:09

I feel that my "bump" appeared really early too. around 13-14 weeks i struggled to conceal the belly. it definitely didn't look like how i usually look when i bloat either, and it was solid.

I'm now 21 weeks and everyone is commenting on how big i am and "sure there's only one in there?!"....!

there is no "normal" bump for anyone as every pregnancy is different.

Britt1234 · 28/08/2019 16:19

Thank you!! You’ve all made me feel better... maybe it is just bloating but I just worried. It is quiet squishy when I poke it.. so you’re probably right.. any idea how to reduce bloating then or is it one of these things that just stays with you till your bump appears? Grin

My bump appeared super early too OP. I always wondered how people manage to keep their pregnancies secret for so long! This and my huuuge boobs it was so obvious!!

leomama81 · 28/08/2019 16:36

Some people show early, I did, and it's not just bloat, it's your abdominal muscles shifting in a way that happens earlier for some women. I was in pregnancy jeans by about week 7! And it was hard, not soft, all the time.

It's totally normal, we are all different shapes and sizes and our bodies change differently, it will likely even out over time and it doesn't mean you will have a big baby.

(Though at six months I am getting a lot of the "not long now!" comments followed by shocked looks when I say there's actually almost three months ☺️)

ChikiTIKI · 28/08/2019 16:55

Just wanted to add that I must have the bloat too as I am 8 weeks and I can totally tell I have a belly!!

CarolineKate · 28/08/2019 17:51

@britt1234 for some women it goes for some it just gets bigger!! 😊. There's nothing to really stop it just embrace it it's your baby causing it at the end of the day even if it just muscles or hormones and not actual size!! 😊

LittleDoveLove · 28/08/2019 18:40

I was really bloated at that time, my actual bump didn't appear until about 5 months

Dr273 · 31/08/2019 07:48

I had lots of ginger, nettle tea, peppermint tea, and fibre to reduce bloating, which was intense around 5 weeks.

Apparently your size and how quickly you show is very much to do with your core muscle strength - second/third timers show more because those muscles are already stretched out. So if you do core exercises like climbing or pilates, you'd expect to show later than if you do non-core exercises, or no exercise at all.
